Default I just found Halal Ties
As Salaamu Alaikum,
I just found a website: jaanj.com. They are Muslim owned and sell Non-Silk ties. I already bought a couple of ties from them and they are really classy. They might seem a bit expensive, but MashaAllah it is totally worth it. They even have a special tie that has the Sandal of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on the Back. These are the best ties I have ever owned. You can't even tell they are not made from silk.
Ma'a Salaama

Most of the these ties are whack design (in my opinion) and overpriced.
I'll stick to the cheap range of Polyester ones from Debenhams and Burtons, jazakallah.

My brother who is an alim masha allah advised me that:

in essence silk is haram. That the prophet sallahu alihe wassalam allowed some of the sahabah radiallahuan use to wear it as treatment for a an ailment. Generally feature strips and design features can be mubah. Also if the silk content is less then half and interwoven with the other fibers it can also be allowed.

Silk in essence is not haram. Women are allowed to wear silk, the Prophet gave gifts of garments interwoven with silk to some of the companions . Therefore, as you have noted the fuqaha have declared that garments that are partly silk are allowed for men. This has been extended to include silk ties for as Sahih-Baba has pointed out, ties are considered to be a small part of a larger item of clothing.

a tie still considered an item and it's not a part of a shirt. There's no problem for the ladies, but for the guys:

Indeed.

http://qa.sunnipath.com/issue_view.a...&ID=97&CATE=90

...If ties are from real silk (=that which is produced from the thread of silkworms), then they are not permitted. Now, while the Hanafi school permits a certain amount of silk in clothes, this is only if it is not entirely or overwhelmingly made from silk, such as silk piping or embroidery. Entire items, such as silk ties, are not permitted. [Naf` al-Mufti wa’l Sa’il of Imam Abd al-Hayy al-Lakhnawi]

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani

Nice website though about the non-silk satin ties. I'd shop there if I had to start wearing ties. Very nice looking quality.

Thnks for this. Being a Maliki I accept that a small piece of silk is overlooked, a tie is a small piece of silk, a part of a greater whole (shirt & tie & dress suit), and thus halal. Of course it is possible to argue that a tie is an article of clothing on its own the converse is also possible, this is a matter of semantics.

Do Malikis really consider a tie to be part of the shirt (and/or suit) and not a separate article of clothing? That's interesting. Can you or someone else direct me to a resource that explains the Maliki rationale for permitting pure silk ties for men?

the guider helper maliki fiqh manual, written by abu qanit based on the classical text THE HELPING GUIDE of ibn 'ashir, says the following

"Large articles of clothing (shirt/jacket/coat) that are part silk and part some other material are also unlawful to wear for men. As for small articles of clothing (TIE/button/handkerchief) which is made of silk, it is permissible."
[footnote 2192]

You can find this fatwa by Shaykh Abdullah calling it haram since a tie bigger than a finger size:

As for badges of silk on ones clothing, there is agreement that if
the size of the silk badge is equal to the size (in width) of a
finger of the average human being then it is permissible. But they
differ with regard to more than that up to 4 fingers. Some say that
from 1 to 4 is permissible. Others say that from 2 to 4 is disliked.
As for more than 4 fingers width, they all agree that it is
forbidden to wear.

http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...n-wearing-silk

So the question is: what is the source in the Maliki works saying it is allowed for small items?
