Taqqiyah refers to when you're able to deny being a Muslim if admitting so would result in death or serious injuries. For example, during the Inquisition it would have been permissible for Muslims to deny that they were Muslims given that the Christians were rounding up Jews and Muslims to slaughter.

as i know this shia use it. the meaninig of taqqiyah may be a lying. shia are not allowed to show there believes to non-shia. Lying is extremely meritorious and rewarding. It is extremely important to conceal one’s faith.

There is a form of taqiya employed by extremist salafist against traditional muslim to put doubt.
Taqiya in Sunni islam is only allowed to safegurd oneself from oppression as elloborated by the other brother. We muslim have nothing to hide and do not need to resort to such things unlike the lieing spencer and zelots and zionist.
