Assalamu Alaikum,

There aren't too many.

Habib Bookstore in Etobicoke has some Urdu material - but not too many major works - they have mariful quran, tareekh ibn kathir, fadail amal, hayatus sahaba and some few others.

Other than that, I have heard there's a small bookstore in front of Masjid Abu Bakr in Scarborough run by the ameer of one of the tablighi jamats, but again, I'm not sure if they carry any major books in tafseer.

I usually order online, and sometimes, I have a friend drive to Buffalo bookstore - Darul Hikmah, to get major books.

Here's the website - http://www.islamicbookcenter.org/

Assalamu aliakum,

Habib's bookstore has Salafi books as well as traditional books mainly in English.

The one across from Abu Bakr is closed. He now sells from his home.

Another good option is http://www.alzahraonline.com/
This brother also sells from home near Madina Masjid.
Across from Madina Masjid there is also another bookstore.

Ta'leemul Islam also has not-for-profit bookstore.

The best option is to go down to Buffalo. Its only 1 hour maximum from Burlington anyway.

There's one in Scarborough called ICNA books, it has a fairly large collection (carries traditional/classical as well as non-traditional/salafi and I believe I have seen books in Urdu there as well.

From many of the deobandi ulema I have interacted with, Maariful Quran has been the primary recommendation for the layman.

http://idara.com/
They will ship your books from India.
In all likelihood, it would probably cost the same whether you buy from a local store, or buy from idara.com and have it shipped to you from India.

Assalam u Alikum wr wb,

I wouldnt recommend Habib;s bookstore.

I would recommend The book store opposite to Madina Masjid by the church located at Donlands and Danforth(donlands subway station).

http://www.madinabookstore.com/

He is a really nice brother and always gives me Discount(this is besides the reason why he is good :P)

There is one at Gerrard where all indian and Pakistani stores are.

http://www.e-islamicbooks.com/direct.htm

Its a bit pricey by the way.

This is another

http://www.al-attique.com/contact.php

I would also recommend buying it from Darul Uloom Madania in Buffalo. Get it mailed.

And in addition to this we do Dawah at Dundas Square every Saturday and Sunday from Zuhr to Maghrib. Pick and Drop facility available for people living in the east end.

Br. Sufi_Taliban, it may be better to leave off all the details you have mentioned about the bookstore, as that was your own personal experience, and it doesn't really affect the buying of every buyer as not everyone is going to face the situation you face; buyers would just go in, pick their books, and come out, and not go through the tiring discussions that you went through. Moreover, it's not like the brother is out there to 'get every buyer' and 'convert them' to a different manhaj.

So it may be better that you do not disclose your personal experience in public like this; especially the name calling can be considered as back biting, and you may be held accountable for this on the day of judgment; also, it is also possible that the brother has repented from any errors.

Jazaakumullaahu khairan.
Walikum salam wr wb.

I suppose you did not read my message properly, or might have misunderstood something.

" i asked him for Hanafi books and he told me Hanafis dont read books"

I believe asking for a particular book section in a big bookstore is very normal practice. And If the above mentioned statement is not surreal insulting and proselytizing then i don't know what is? Maybe you have a higher threshold for insults, certainly not a common layman like myself. And the man is precisely out there to get people to abandon Madhabs and become Pseudo scholars by reading a single book. Unless of course you think asking for the Hanafi section in an Islamic bookstore is an effort to aggravate the bookstore owner which resulted in all this drama. I thought it would be very clear to anyone as to why i suggested not going there.

Wa Salam

JazaakAllaah for your effort to clarifying.
I respectfully disagree with you. I have been there few times, and have never faced any similar situation, alhamdulillaah.

Since you did, you have the full right to warn people from going there; I was just suggesting to not disclose so much details of another persons faults, and to resort to name calling them on a public forum like this.

Wallaahu A'lam.

I apologize for any miscommunication or offense.

Assalam u Alikum wr wb

I believe you are right, i think my emotions clouded my better judgement when replying to you for which i apologize. I will delete the comment, its just that the experience i had was so intense its still vivid in my memory,

Wa Salam.

Br. Sufi_Taliban, I have deleted my posts; could you also edit out my portions from your posts, or delete them altogether?
