Default Saudi's and the moon confusion
Some of us followed the Saudi announcement so we had our Eid on Tuesday. I heard today at out local community centre that Saudi's have apologised and advised all those who followed them to repay at least 1 day

I've yet to verify this information but would like ask if anyone heard about this.

Personally I don't have a problem with repaying as I always fast my Sunna's.

Anyone?

Hilaal could not be sighted with telescopes in Saudi!

STATEMENT FROM SHEIKH SULAIMAN AND BROTHER QAMARUDDIN

I have personally called the head of the Saudi Hilal Committee just now, who has collected all the other committee reports (9 in total this month) and advised me that none of the astronomers within the committees could sight the hilal with their telescopes.

However, a few people near Riyadh who have reported following the hilal with their naked eye before sunset until the sunset and the court had accepted their claim. There Bedouins are well known to the Saudi court as "early sighters".

Please be aware that the general public in Saudi Arabia are well used to the Umm Al-Qura date being also used for Ibadah (worship) purposes as well, so the purposes of the hilal committees are just formalities at the moment.

I do hope they will change their Umm Al-Qura calendar to a Imkan-e-Ruyat model, then we will not have the divisions/chaos we face in the UK!

PS.

A few other gulf countries have also announced Eid, following Saudi Arabia (e.g. Jordan, Qatar etc).

Wassalam,

Qamar Uddin, York (UK)

Its true what the saudi moon sighting committie saying is that they are formed in saudi but still have no say over the moon sighting plus they calified that saudi uses out dated calender for all worhsip etc and need to use the updated one. Because of few people in riyadh i bet there some high status arabs declared they saw the moon when the suadi moon sight committie says impossible. And the saudi officals have apologised for the mis sighting of the moon.

No, this is not true at all. Rather the opposite is true, and many shiekhs including the Mufti of Saudi and the Mufti of Egypt affirmed this, in response to those who just want to use calculations.
