salam
I have quick scenario I wanted to share and wanted some feedback on whether im being OTT in my reaction. A brother openly jokes with his sisters about intimate subjects...and im not exactly talking about teaching them the rules of menstruation! without mentioning any particular words (which to preserve haya here i shall not mention) i mean..sometimes when we say something and the person with the dirty mind will take it the wrong way...this will be brought up by the brother or sister and they will all laugh at it. Other things include youngsters not being able to pronounce certain words properly which sound some slang words used to refer to particular private parts..this child may be asked to repeat it just for a laugh amongst the siblings. There are numerous examples but for sake of being brief..i hpe u get the picture. When confronted, the brother insists there is absolutely nothing wrong with joking in such a manner What is the wife of the brother who jokes in such a manner with his sisters (and vice versa) supposed to react? |

Sister;
I'm not a scholar, but I believe that the more haya is apparent the better. I have brothers and feel uncomfortable if they joke with me about certain matters or even act overly affectionate. But once I state my discomfort, even though it may upset them initially, they get over it and respect it. We should always protect the haya of ourselves and others. Edited to add this hadith which I didn't find earlier: Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Modesty brings nothing but good.” [Sahih Bukhari] |
