Default Laylatul Qadr

According to the Salaf and scholars Laylatul Qadr is most probably on night of 27th of Ramadan. Which is tomorrow in many parts of the world.

“Verily! We have sent this (Qur'aan) down in the Night of al-Qadr.
And what will make you know what Night of Qadr is?
The Night of al-Qadr is better than one thousand months.
In it the angels and the Spirit (Angel Jibreel alaihis-salaam) descend, by the Permission of Allah, with all decrees.
Peace it is until the appearance of dawn.”

[Soorah al-Qadr (97): 1-5]

Qiyam:
It is recommended to make Qiyam (standing) in prayer during the nights on which Laylat al-Qadr could fall. This is indicated in a number of Ahadeeth. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said:
“Whoever stands (in Qiyam) in Laylat al-Qadr (and it is facilitated to him) out of faith and expectation (of Allah's reward), will have all his previous sins forgiven.”
[Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslim]

Supplication: It is also recommended to make extensive supplications on the night of Laylat al-Qadr. Aa'ishah (radhi allahu anha) reported that she asked the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam):
"O Messenger of Allah ! If I knew the night of Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say during it?” And he (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) instructed her to say: “Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afwa fa'fu anni” O Allah! You are forgiving, and you love forgiveness. So forgive me.”
[(saheeh) by Shaikh al-Albanee (Musnad Ahmad, Ibn Majah and at-Tirmidhee)]

Today the Imam talked about the importance of Laylatul Qadr. There are different opinions on the date of Laylatul Qadr among the scholars:
1.Last ten days of Ramadan;
2.Odd days of last third of Ramadan;
3.Changes every year;
4. 21st or 23rd; and
4. 27th of Ramadan.
Of this the most agreed upon is the 27th of Ramadan.

Why does the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad has such an offer?

It is due to the short life span of our ummah compared to previous generations, they did Ibadah for hundreds of years.
In Ramadan
1 sunnah= reward of 1 Fard deed
1 Fard= reward of 70 Fard deeds.

On top of that, In Laylatul Qadr
1 night of worship=1000months (83 years and 4months) of worship.
So the Imam stressed not to miss this opportunity.

Some opinions of scholars on, why Laylatul Qadr is most probably on 27th:
1. Suratul Qadr has 30 words and the 27th word is 'SalamunHiya'
2. Laylatul Qadr is 9 words and it repeats itself 3 times in the Ayah(9x3=27)
3. An incident at the time of the Khilafat of Umar Al farook (ra), the Sahabah were sitting around and discussing about Laylatul Qadr. Abdullah ibn Masood (ra) was among them but he was remaining silent. Then Umar (ra) asked him, why are you silent? You have knowledge and only reason for you to be silent is that you are young. Then Abdullah ibn Masood (ra) answered, Allah is One and Allah like odd numbers. Allah created 7 Heavens, 7 earths, 7 days, ... (the Imam mentioned some more, i cant recollect)... So I think Laylatul Qadr is on the 7th night of the Last third of Ramadan (ie 27th). [Bayhaqi]

In addition to that : Ubayy ibn Ka’b () used to swear that it was the night of the twenty-seventh.

What would be better, staying awake in the masjid with nafl intention of i'tikaaf or staying awake at home? (while you pray your fard prayers in the masjid of course)

No special form of worship is prescribed for Laylatul Qadr. The night should be spent by offering as much nafl prayers as one can offer, in recitation of the Holy Qur'an, in dhikr and tasbeeh, in supplications and in making sadaqah (charity).

It is not advisable in this night to hold ceremonies or meetings or delivering long lectures or illuminating the masjids. This is a night meant for developing a special connection with one's Creator, for offering acts of worship in solitude and seclusion, for having constant and exclusive contact with his Lord Who is the Lord of the universe, for minimizing the diversity of thoughts and actions and for devoting oneself to Allah Almighty with his heart and soul.

http://www.beautifulislam.net/hijrah/ramadan.htm Is this to be understood from the text of nur al-idah, saying it is makruh to have an "ijtima'' in the masjid in the last 10 nights of the ramadan?

Though it is not advisable..Ulema feel that it is a good opportunity to tell few Islamic things to masses who generally doesnt gather in masjids.

Bump

Tonight is another odd night, 29th. Remember Laylatul Qadr can be any of the last ten nights... In fact yesterday night was unusually calm and peaceful I would not be surprised if it was Laylatul Qadr.

Let's make the most of the last of the Ramadhaan nights!

Yesterday morning (saturday) was really calm even though Irene is approaching us (it's raining non-stop today - Sunday).
