Default Are food stamps halal?
, hope everybody is having a very good Ramadan.

Is it permissible to take Food Stamps? Here in the US government offers public benefits to low-income people, benefits may include food stamps, housing benefits, cash benefits for the unemployed etc. Are such benefits permissible, if the muslim family qualifies based on their income level.

Your replies and thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Why do you ask this questions, i would imagine food stamps are a good thing for a family that need them?

I agree with you sister and I hold the same opinion. However, someone here told me it should only be for the really poor and desperately in need. My question is specifically directed in ragards to a muslim family that does not desperately need it but would benefit, if you know what I mean. For example they can manage with their limited income but having these benefits will help them save a few bucks for something else.

Yes, I see what you mean. I am not muslim, certainly not a scholar but I would imagine that if you know by talking the stamp that it means someone else who needs it more doesnt get it, then it would not be halal, but how can you ever know that? I know there is a lot of families in Ireland who get state assistance that shouldnt be and there is not guilt there whatsoever.

I hope you get the answers and advice you are looking for.

brother Sulaiman for the links. So a muslim family can take advantage of benefits as long as they genuinely qualify as per the criterion speficied by the government even if they are not in desperate need, inshaAllah.

may Allah accept all our ibadah in this blessed month, ameen

This is a question about stamps being halal. Is there something else you want to talk about?

Lol, no. The reason the original poster asked the question was because of taqwa.
