![]() A dear friend has sent me this message. Can someone with knowledge please advise? 'If a family is needy and you are unsure if they qualify for zakat, can you still call what you give them 'charity'? The head is an alim and sadly doesn't get paid by the masjid much or by the parents whose houses he visits to teach their children ![]() The family are unique as the children don't have much at all and amongst the list of things they have given me that they need (after much cajoling) is school trousers, some pans, drinking glasses and some basic clothing - all of which are basic necessities. The point is can the money spent on this family be considered as lillah? If I make something and sell it and tell my customer I am donating this money to charity, can I then use this money on this family? It's not that I don't want to spend freely from what I have, it's just that the family needs so much more than what I can afford right now and i'm selling things and donating the money to charity' ws |
