i was just wondering what everyone's thought on these quran verses and what they mean in today
Qur'an:9:88 "The Messenger and those who believe with him, strive hard and fight with their wealth and lives in Allah's Cause." Qur'an:9:5 "Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war." Qur'an:9:112 "The Believers fight in Allah's Cause, they slay and are slain, kill and are killed." Qur'an:9:29 "Fight those who do not believe until they all surrender, paying the protective tax in submission." Qur'an:9:14 "Fight them and Allah will punish them by your hands, lay them low, and cover them with shame. He will help you over them." i watched a documentary by bill maher called religuious .and in it he speaks to a muslim woman i shr said that these verses must be put in to context of the time and just wondered what everyone else thought(people on here) |

i was just wondering what everyone's thought on these quran verses and what they mean in today http://islamicstudies.info/maarif/ Those who talk about the "need to contextualize" are those who would want Islam and the Muslims to be deprived of the means "necessary" to its own defence, in order to be submitted by the interests of the kuffar even more. |

![]() Islam is the only religion to provide a complete set of rules for life. Warfare is a part of life at a global level so Islam has provided laws regarding it, too. Why do these non-Muslims take issue with these verses? Other religions remain silent on the "hows" of warfare so their followers make up their own rules and commit innumerable injustices because they do not have divine and objective laws like we do. All these Christians and non-Christians say that their religions are peaceful, etc. etc. yet Christians are one of the most blood-thirsty people on this planet. The number of people that Muslims have killed pales in comparison to how many Christians have killed. This is because there are no religious laws dictating warfare so people give in to their own vices and make up their own laws. To see the application of these laws, read the seerah as well as Muslim history, especially during the khilafaat of the khulafa rashidoon. Those were the best practitioners of the laws of Allah ![]() Islam has both offensive and defensive jihad, with defensive jihad being fardh 'ayn and offensive jihad being fardh kifayah (correct me if I'm wrong), so yes, fighting in the cause of Allah ![]() ![]() |

What are your thoughts on these verses?
"Fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for God loves not transgressors. And slay them wherever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter... But if they cease, God is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful... If they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression" (2:190-193)." Also "God does not forbid you, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for God loves those who are just." You cant possibly get to a correct conclusion on anything without looking at all verses and hadeeths and contexts putting them all together. You cant learn this from people like Bill Maher for sure. |
