For example, I never look at any kind of pornography or nudity {other than what I will discuss}. It's haram, and against Islam. All of the scholars agree, and in the glorious Qu'ran there are many verses about modesty, and there is nothing modest in pornography.
But, I have seen those hideous images from Abu Ghraib, and the men were naked. I've also seen video of the torture, and read about it. Is this haram? I sought this out for informational purposes, and it only strengthens my resentment towards the West. Looking at nudity isn't good, but is it worse to be ignorant of the crimes being committed against innocent brothers? It's depraved, but do we need to know what it is? I looked this up, and nothing came up. Many times, I trust Islam Q&A for interpretation on such matters, but they have nothing on this. They only have fatwas on viewing of pornography. Does anyone have any knowledge, preferably from the Hanbali fiqh, that can answer this question? |

Assalamualaykum\walaylumassalam
I don't have any fatwas regarding this issue and I don't want to get off the track but anyways, I have some comments regarding this: From my experience, one should be extremely carefull watching any pictures, forms, figures with innapropiate messages because of the simple reason that it can lead to certain sins. So if looking at these kinds of pictures when it's not related to studies or job, one should be cautios. |

Sister, it is completed forbidden to look at a mans awrah after he dies just as it is in his lifetime. You should avoid watching videos or looking at such pictures even though your intention is not corrupt. One thing to bear in mind always when looking at images of the naked corpses of Muslim brothers is that they have been violated and would be extremely troubled to know that images of their nakedness were being looked at by others, especially Muslim sisters.

Intention doesn't make haram, halal. Just like you can't eat pork with a good intention, similarly, you can't watch nudity with a good intention in mind.
