after applying medication on the face, if some of the fumes somehow escape into the nose, does this break the fast?

I have heard that applying Vicks Vaporub outside the nose and inhaling the fumes does not break the fast so inhaling fumes from other medicine as long as it is applied outside the nose/mouth should be fine. Other brothers (preferably ulama and students) can elucidate further.
