![]() Actually brother, you need to understand the concept of Shaikh and the concept of Bay't. The concept of Bay'ah is to make Tobah at the hands of the Shaikh. It is a pledge of Tobah. Bay't e Tobah. The concept of Suhbah of Shaikh is derived from the Ayah, وكونوا مع الصادقين Now let us understand that Hazrat Abu Bakr ![]() ![]() So after Rasool Allah ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() But as time passed, proper Ijazahs were given due to the fact that not everyone was qualified to cure your spiritual diseases. The mureed stayed with Shaikh for a long time. The shaikh would first purify (tazkiyah) the mureeds batin. Then he would see, If the mureed had the qualities of Guiding other people and purifying them, the Shaikh would give Ijazah to him for doing so. It is just like how a medical doctor has to do practice with an experienced doctor before he can open up his own Clinic. Please ask if you didn't understand it. ![]() |

Just like we find great 'Ulama in India for example Hazrat Shaikh ul Islam, Maulana Hussain Ahmed Madni (RA), we also find Tasawwuf Shaikhs in India. Hazrat Hussain Ahmed Madni's silsila of Ilm also reaches to Madinah to Rasool Allah ![]() I don't think it's very strange. The students spread in different parts and spread their knowledge (whether ilm or tazkiyah) to students from different parts of the world. Then these students go to their respective countries and spread it there. Why is it strange? |

As-salamu ´alaykum,
In the early generations there was no such thing as granting ijaza in tasawwuf, rather there was suhba, and all the early figures in the salasil were known for their piety, zuhd and competence, and did not need ijazas to prove their status. However, in the commonly cited Naqshbandi silsila, physical suhba is lacking in several cases. For example, Sayyidina Qasim bin Muhammad (ra) did not meet Sayyidina Salman al-Farisi (ra), for the latter had passed away before Qasim was born. The same goes for Sayyidina Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (ra) and Khwaaja Abu Yazid al-Bastami (ra), and similarly between Bastami and Khwaaja Abu al-Hasan al-Kharqani (ra). wassalam |
