Ramadhan Kareem! Quick question, do the timetable for Suhour (sehri) vary in your part of the country (uk). Ive had a look at a few timetables around Manchester and cannot believe the difference between them. Another thing that does not make sense to me is that if you compare Fajr jamaat time from Sunday to Monday there is at least an hours difference. Why is this? Suhur time seems to early to me and i came across the following statement from Abu Eesa Niamatullah (imam of cheadle mosque in Manchester) and was wondering if there is anything wrong with his thoughts below. Just to add the sheikh went to Glossop all night to witness the break of Fajr, hence the statement he has written below. Abu Eesa Niamatullah "The conclusion is pretty much what I always have believed: during this Summer period due to our latitude in the UK, Europe and Canada etc, the residual level of light in the sky makes it difficult to see the exact moment Fajr starts and thus the normal rules of the Sunnah of delaying the Suhoor to the last moment, and praying at the earliest time of Fajr are therefore difficult to apply. Yet from our observations last year and this time too, there is no doubt that there is a discernible change in light and a "break" of dawn (quite literally a "fajr") around 70-90 minutes before Sunrise. Our teacher Sh Kehlan opines that one should stop eating 90 minutes before sunrise and is then able to pray as well but that the Jama'ah time should be 70 minutes before Sunrise at the earliest. In my opinion, I prefer to be on the safe side and stop eating (Sehri/Suhoor) about 1 hr 40 minutes to about 1 hr 30 minutes before Sunrise, and that we shouldn't pray Fajr until 1hr 20 minutes before Sunrise. I appreciate all the differences of opinion on this issue between the scholars and the resulting various timetables, but I won't be following any of them. I hold that anyone who follows the above general rule throughout the month will be safe and have a proper start to the day with a valid fast as long as he stops eating 90 minutes before Sunrise, and then to be on the safe side, doesn't pray until 10-20 minutes later. Hope that helps. Wallahu a'lam." |
