How you going to stop married brothers from accessing the forum?
personally,it should be for singletons only and brothers looking for a 2/3/4 wife need not apply. controversial I know but hey, thats my opinion. (please don't bothter with the 'Allah has allowed a man to have upto 4 wives' etc argument. my reasoning is not based on going against that shar'i permission) |

I think instead of letting anyone and everyone avail this service only those members should be allowed who qualifies for it after having met some criteria which could be in the form of making stipulated amount of posts or something like that. I am saying this because by the time a member has made let's say 200 posts, he would have left an impression on the board for others to decide the kind of personality or attitude one has.
Just saying... |

Regarding point (6), the candidate could be given the OPTION of providing reference contacts (local imam etc.) - visible only to moderators (and the potential spouse after a certain safety barrier has been crossed). The most trustworthy and serious candidates would probably be happy to supply this optional information, while the dodgy imposters would most likely choose not to. So if a sister is contacted by a brother and she sees that he has supplied address, local imam's telephone number, etc., although not view the details (to avoid potential stalker scenarios!!) - it might help her to gauge his level of trustworthiness and sincerity. So a person's profile could reveal a lot about the person's sincerity without revealing any personal data. For example - Nickname: Noah / Aisha Real Name: Supplied / Not supplied Forum memberships: SF (date of joining), Ummah (DOJ)... Character references: None/ supplied Jamaat/ tariqa affiliation: TJ etc. - local jamaat contact supplied/ not supplied Plus, a star or something to indicate the members who had passed a certain security acid test (an approved/ checked reference, for example, or a recommendation from a forum or jamaat) This is a bit like the way some professional online communities allow potential clients to sort out the riffraff from the pros! |

this is a good initiative but one which has many pitfalls if one is not careful. Instead of rushing into this,we should all take our time and give our opinions. It is better to take our time and consult as oppose to rush into it and have disastrous consequences. There should be a small yet concise network of sincere brothers and sisters who can confirm whether said person is genuine or not. For example,if someone wanted some sort of reference from someone for a guy in my town,I could get the basic information which would help in the process. |

Salams,
This might be overly difficult to implement. I think this may have to be a paid service. This will not only compensate the people who will have a huge task in upholding the integrity of the forum, but also deter people who are just not serious. The prospect of having to pay something (even if it's small) will stop people from signing on to mess around. |

Salams, A sister went to marriage event held in Birmingham two weeks ago and mentioned that there were sooo many brothers and sisters (mostly professionals) that it was difficult to even get around. So this sort of thing would be more than welcome, and for whoever running it, it could be a good source of income too (There is nothing wrong with that)! Btw this is slightly off topic, but I have a site designed of this kind (php, mysql and css used), that basically takes a user's profile, shows matches based on preferences, allows one to search etc, but doesn't show anyone's emails, but allows a user to email via the website the wali of the posted user you are interested in, and then things can be taken forward from that. Not the best idea, but is workable (I did it a couple of years back). Anyhow, if anyone wants it, send me an email. It is well designed but may need slight updating to match reuqirements. |

You can still have your family involved in the process. Obviously if I am gonna take this service, I would not be deciding all on my own. I would have my parents very much involved in it and decision would be a collective one rather than a personal decision. >>wat does SRK mean???? SRK means Shahrukh Khan |
