Default Article on BBC Documentary on the Prophet (PBUH)
The article itself is rubbish, but I was wondering if anyone knew what this paragraph was referring to:

The programme also addresses the issue of the satanic verses, not just the apocalyptic fall-out from the Rushdie book but the incident where a supposedly divine revelation - acknowledging pagan gods - was later withdrawn because it was designed as a test. In both cases the veracity of the Qur'an - as a divine revelation - and the status of Muhammad as a prophet, if not the prophet, comes under scrutiny.

Assalam alaykum,

I hope that someone else can supply more information; I can only say that I have read this in secular books about the Quran and the alleged source is one of the Prophet's (SAWS) wives. But you have to understand that it is the purpose of these secular endeavors to attribute the authorship of the Quran to the Prophet (SAWS) and to cast doubt on the divine origin of the Holy Quran.

Wassalam

The references for these "satanic verses" are not authentic.

This documentary is going to be farce since it is giving a voice to the Islamophobes that cast doubt on the authenticity of the Qur'an based on unauthentic narrations.

EDIT: Correction: It is NOT in Ibn Ishaq's seerah but in Imam Tabari's Tareekh. Note that Imam Tabari's Tareekh is a collection of many narrations, including true and false. It is one of the favourite Sunni sources for the Shi'as to falsely allege the viciousness of the sahabas because of this fact that Imam Tabari was involved in collecting, not authenticating narrations.

Assalamu Alaikum,

Ash-Shifa of Qadi Iyad has a brilliant discussion on the alleged "satanic verses". The learned Qadi analyses it from both angles: 1) Reasons why it's a false and weak narration 2) Even if it is considered true, what are the different explanations that can be given.

Needless to say, this is one of those incidents that the enemies of Allah use to create doubts in the minds of muslims. But Alhamdulillah, our Ulama have dissected it completely and through them, Allah has put our hearts at ease.

Wassalam

Sorry bro, I meant to the Ash-Shifa of Qadi Iyad...

I did see the programme yesterday, I thought it was well presented, you can argue that they didn't need to include so much 'bad' stuff such as links to Danish cartoons and 911 but this programme, especially being on BBC2 and at a peak time in the evening, was designing to put forward the truths about Islam, and I am all for that.

Overall it it might of been well presented but the part about the satanic verses was mentioned but no clear explanation was given according to our sources, this created allot of doubts in muslims minds and this doubt didnt get answered at all, and this doubt which gets created is all it takes to make the programme a waste of time and unbeneficial for the muslims.

If I remember correctly, the presenter himslef did mention that Hadiths are only accepted when verified and that the satanic Verses Hadith is not accepted because it's not verified. Surprisingly, he didn't attack the validity of Hadth as a major source, which was good. Did you see that Holland bloke deny the existence of Makkah before Islam? LOL. What a plonker!
