Assalamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah,
A sister has asked me whether it is correct to do group prayer in a Christian school. The kids are from different faiths but the school wants her to do a group prayer with the children, like general thankfulness and asking etc. Is it permissible for her to do so? (If she intends that she is supplicating to the one and only Lord)... JazakumAllahu khairan. |

Hmm a good chance to do dawah, I think?
Any kowledgeable brother can comment if I am wrong, but may be you can copy some quotes from the bible!!! ONLY those that talk about ONE God, may be even some prayers where Jesus expresses his helplessness, where he says "the Father is greater than all" and "Not as I will, but as You will" Hopefully you get the point... We are not saying Nabi Isa a.s. actually said those, that would be wrong but just say it as a general prayer. Just make sure your own beliefs are solid. Tawheed first, da'wah second. For children, its a very good chance to reinforce monotheism in them. I got a Christian student, seems remnants of his tawheed is still there. Do visit the New Muslims section for more details. Jazakallah |

This is easy. Simply translate surah fatiha and modify it to suite and express shukr. Use Allahs many of 99 names (translated). You don't have to say things in Arabic. This is really matter of commonsens. Are we realy so clueless that one needs such guidance. No offense. This types of this seems to be quiet endemic! ![]() Sometimes commonsense can be wrong. So it's better to ask ![]() |

Does the school know she is a Muslim? Christian schools here require teachers to sign a statement that they are a Christian, and they do not hire anyone who is not.
If you do not want to answer my question it is okay. I know it is not pertinent to the topic at hand. I was simply curious, because I was surprised to hear of a Christian school that openly hired a non-Christian. |

As long as you don't mention 'OBL' in the prayer, it'll be just fine! ;p
On a serious note, there's nothing wrong in leading the prayer. Keep the prayer general. Ask for mercy, forgiveness etc. and instead of Allah, say God. Mention Jesus (as) and you'll become a legend! And might get a promotion too! Lol. At school, when the teacher said 'Amen', we'd say 'Ameen'. And when they said 'God', we said 'Allah'. When they sung carols/songs, we'd recite the kalimah or Qur'an. The trick was to keep the lips moving or the teachers would 'catch' you, make you stand up and sing a solo! A predictably pitiful, soul-destroying and rather terrifying experience. Not one for the memoirs. |
