Assalamu Alaikum, just wanted to check with our Ulema on the Forum if fixing number is allowed. Also what is the significance of reading surah Ikhlaas, I read about reding Kalima Tayyabah 70,000 times but never heard about Surah Ikhlaas. Please forgive my ignorance, I would be wait for a reply.

As far as Transfer of Reward (eesaal-e-sawab) is concerned more is merrier. The minimum of three times of Surah Ikhlas has the significance that it can be thought of as full Quran recitation (because of the Tradition that says that Surah Ikhlas is one third of the Holy Quran.) Scholars have warned that we should not give up recitation of full book in favour of three times Surah Ikhlas. Wallahualam.

Please note that brothers and sisters posting any (fixed or otherwise) numbers that they are going to offer Surah Ikhlas (or any other surah for that matter) is merely their offering (or intention thereof) of Thawab for the deceased. As far as the target of 100K mentioned in the earlier posts is again an intention to reach a certain milestone.

None of this would be a bid'ah if it is done to increase the Ajr, and not considered an absolute must, and something people would be reproached if they failed to meet the goal; e.g. if the goal of 100K is not met, or if someone who intends to recite it 1000 times failed to do so.

On a separate note, my advice to all people affected by the demise of Hazrat (and I am one of them) is to offer a variety of ایصال ثواب and do so with a lot of اخلاص and devotion. Remember the Ajr is not calculated but weighed, and that depends solely on the purity of intention and the concentration.

Dear brother, as noted by Ulema (including Hazrat Hakeemul Ummah himself), while reciting Surah Ikhlas is an act of great virtue and holds a reward of reciting 1/3-rd of Quran, reciting it 3 times does not equal reward of reciting the whole Quran. Rather, as Ulema say, it will be considered 3 times the 1/3-rd (simple arithmetic does not hold here), which is not compared to reciting the Quran in full. You may verify this with other Ulema as well.

This is why as noted in my earlier email, it is preferred to offer a variety of ایصال ثواب including recitation of Quran (whether it be a certain Surah, like Yaseen, or otherwise), recital of Kalima, Istighfar, and Dua. We sould also offer ایصال ثواب in the form of Sadaqah and Waqf (for example placing مصاحف i.e. copies of Quran in Masajid - and what better than the Haramain. However, the مصاحف in this case MUST be from مجمع ملک فھد King Fahad Printing Press and certified therein).

May Allah Ta'ala accept everyone's a'maal, and give taufeeq for more.
