Default Muslim wanting to learn more about Islam.
Asalamu alaikum,

I'm a Muslim in the most basic sense. I believe in Allah SWT, His last prophet, in Qadr. I do the basics: prayer, reading quran, some zikhr, but that is it. My knowledge is severely limited.

My question is how do I learn more about Islam? There is so much out there. I don't know where to start or how to expound upon what I already know.

Advice would be much appreciated,

JZK

Welcome to the forums sister !

Its great to have you here. Sunniforums itself is the right place to start. Even our scholars and elders think that they havent learnt enough about islam. Its a life long journey which we all are headed towards the same direction. The difference is that you will find many great companians on your way.

Stay on Sunniforums and partcipate in the discussions and youl slowly observe that you are learning as days go by.

Ask questions in the Ramadhan section, Parenting sections, youth etc and read what others ask and the replies.

Also visit the media and books section, there is plenty of books suggested to start reading on.

The members here are very warm and friendly.

Looking forward for your contribution to the forums

JazakAllah khair

It all depends on you and what kind of person you are, some people like to read books if that's the case then I would recommend you to read some basic books about the five pillars and Islams history and manners and Ikhlaq. If you are more to listening to talks then I would recommend some English speaking scholars in the country you live in either directly contact them or hear their speeches.

I think there is a sisters section on this forum only for sisters maybe that way you can also get some contacts and make friends like that, Allah knows best.

Anyway thank Allah that He has given us the understanding and shown us the straight path which leads to paradise now it's up to us if we want that path.

Congratulations on your accepting Islam may Allah always guide us and make us a means to guide others ameen

I'm uncomfortable with sharing my location, however, this is a good idea. I shall ask around the masjid for information!

I prefer to read books, but do also listen to lectures. I've heard some by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, Shaykh Webb, and Nouman Ali Khan. Do you have any book recommendations?

I believe the sisters forum requires a high number of posts before it is available to a user. It will take me a while to reach that!

Ameen.

MashahAllah I'm a book-worm if that's the correct way to put it, I would recommend that you get:

1: prayer/supplications book, in most cases it's a small booklet and it should have all the different supplications for different timings f.ex what to read when waking up or sleeping.

2: Ihya Uloom-ud-Deen of Imam Ghazali

3: Hayat-us-Sahabah of Mawlana Yusuf Kandhelwi

4: Riyadh-us-Saliheen of Iman Nawawi

There are others but I don't want you to think it as a burden, rather a step at a time, one drop after the other makes the ocean, water hitting the stone continuesly will sooner or later break the stone.

No problem, you may want to check out a few sites however.

Please check this:

I want to learn about Islam from the beginning

If you are in the America, I do not know much, but there is a Darul 'Uloom in Alexandria, Virginia, that might have an 'Aalimah [female scholar course]. And Allah knows best.

Otherwise Bayyinah Institute is good for their arabic lectures.

As for Canada, there is Shaykh Yusuf Badat in Toronto.

May Allah preserve our scholars. Amin.

wa alaikumus salaam W R W B,

May Allah Ta'ala reward you for your concern to learn more.
IMHO it would be best to start with some basic books and gradually go to more advanced books. The following are some books you can start with

Beheshthi Zewar by Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (RA) parts 1-3
Beheshthi Zewar by Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (RA) parts 4-7
Fazail-e-A'mal by Moulana Zakariyya (RA)

While reading these books it would be a good idea to also listen to the lectures by Moulana Yunus Patel (RA) which are available at www.yunuspatel.co.za
