It's used to support ta'addud but Ta'addud is not solely based on this. It ain't mainly about women being more than men. It's about nice, practicing good muslimahs finding it difficult to find nice practicing muslim heroes.

Ta'addud is practiced by our Prophet , Sahaba رضي الله عنهم and it has been allowed by Allah. This is enough to support ta'addud, we don't need any figures or statistics to prove it.

Allah has allowed whatever is good for us and naturally ta'addud is best for us.

Yes please promote, ever ready...
I am actually not opposed to polygamy. I believe it has many benefits.

I also believe that the majority of individuals are not able to properly handle a polygamous relationship..... which may go along with your statement about nice, practicing muslimahs having difficulty finding nice, practicing males. That would indicate a problem with the quality of individuals, rather than quantity (male to female ratio). I see practicing males all the time who are unable to find a good wife.... shame they couldn't be matched up with all those nice, practicing muslimahs that you speak of. I think there are many factors beyond simply quantity or quality.

Ironically, usually when I see young males promoting polygamy, it is males who are not married at all and are not equipped to be in a plural marriage. Most of the males I see who are wonderful husbands and fathers have zero desire to be in a plural marriage. The most ideal plural marriage I have ever personally known was a christian man and his wives.

How about answering this also?

I have heard that the hadith is not literal but rather means that there will only be one REAL man for every 50 women (as men will become effeminate etc)

Allah knows best

Moulana Taliban, seems to have more questions than he has answers. Moulana if numbers are a justification for anything then please explain this;

"In the 2000s this has been of particular concern in India, where it is partly responsible for a low and declining population ratio of women to men - there were 972 females against 1,000 males in 1901 and 933 females against 1,000 males in 2001. The Hindu newspaper reported in 2002 that "in Delhi, one in seven female foetuses is said to be aborted.

Similar issues have caused concern in South Korea and China."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/abortion...ive_1.shtml#h2

If anything in many parts of the world men outnumber the women.

I personally don't trust any reports and studies that comes from Non-muslims. How do we trust them when they lie so much? Whether be muslims or non muslims I can't trust a liar.

It is common experience and observation that there are more women than men in the world. Look around yourself, look in your family.

There is hadith that towards the end of times, there will be 1:50 ratio btw men and women.

It won't happen overnight will it?

Respected Brother, Assalaamoalaikum

World statistics regarding populations in most countries indicate that the ratio of men to women is almost 1:1 - there are very few exceptions. In my country, the ratio is 1:1.

In most countries, these statistics are based on censuses that are carried out in general once every ten years. These are actual data, not based on individual observations. Why would anyone, muslims or non-muslims wish to manipulate such data?

I personally don't trust any reports and studies that comes from Non-muslims The nationality / belief of a historian, scientist, archaeologist, is immaterial when it comes to research and the subsequent reports / studies published. Both among muslims and non-muslims there are people who are paid to write something or who write to justify their own goals and / or beliefs or the goals of their respective governments. The aqeeda issue amongst muslims illustrates perfectly this point. But there is a majority that do research and publish their works in the interest of their subject / field only.

The best research / studies are from non-muslim scholars for the very simple reason that they have been trained to think, reason and use their logic. Muslims have been trained to act like parrots - exception made for those muslims who have had a secular education.

I, personally, have learnt a lot from non-muslim scholars; most of my teachers from primary school to university have been non-muslims, and I have a lot of gratitude for them. They taught the muslim that I am in the same way that they taught non-muslims.

Brotherly yours

Hazrat, please forgive me.. I didn't say numbers are justifications for anything, thank you I have already said that i don't believe in studies. Please stop pushing them in my face. Sorry for being rude.

From Anas ibn Malik (RA):

لأحدثنكم حديثا لا يحدثكم أحد بعدي سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول من أشراط الساعة أن يقل العلم ويظهر الجهل ويظهر الزنا وتكثر النساء ويقل الرجال حتى يكون لخمسين امرأة القيم الواحد

“I will narrate a hadith which no one shall narrate after me. I heard Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: “From among the portents of the Hour: General ignorance (in religious affairs), illegal sexual intercourse (zina) will prevail, the increase of the number of women and the decrease of men so much so that for every fifty women there will be one man to look after them.”

- al-Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah, Ahmad,

This is what i base my statistics and Iman on.

Bro Ahmed, this hadith is literal. Rasool Allah clearly mentioned the increase of the number of women and the decrease of men.

It will not happen overnight.

The only problem in its interpretation is that the period is not specified. The only word that reflects the future is the word "....will....". The word "will" might have been the day after the hadith was reported, could have been one month after, one year after, one century after, one thousand years after or could happen when the end of times is close. The hadith unfortunately provides no indication.

The present statistics, however, are facts that are collected via a system that has been tried and proved correct. Such figures cannot be the subject of dispute. The interpretation of statistical data may, however, such as increase in cost of living that a government may wish to manipulate to fool the public. I don't see any reason why any government would manipulate the ratio of men to women in its country.

We muslims believe in the hadiths (no doubt, the majority)- but their interpretation is something else.

Moulana Taliban, I know you base your justification on Quran & Hadith. I was merely highlighting that men outnumbering women is a poor justification for polygamy, as in some areas women outnumber men.

Basically we can say that it's not true that there are massively more women than men in the world; there isn't much to argue about this.

So, we should all agree that the best thing will be to avoid any mention of this point (which is factually untrue) while discussing poliginy.

That's very interesting, could you please find out the source of this interpretation and its status amongst the scholars?

I read a book long time ago (The curse of adam) written by a non muslim scientist (cant remember his name). He discusses this issue and others. If i can remember correctly his conclusions were very close to what the hadith mentions about the male/female ratio. I advice u guys to read it, i enjoyed it.

Heard it from a Shaykh Hamza Yusuf lecture from way back in the day when he was always talking about Dajjal and stuff; he mentioned it as one of the opinions held by classical scholars

There are always more women then men. The girl's immune system prevents them from many diseases and child-mortality. So, many infant males die at young age.

Try recalling how many handicap or retarded men you have seen in your life, and how many women you have seen? i can guarantee the female kind is much less.

Workplace accidents also increase deaths for male, whereas not much for females. since females are either doing safer and easier work, or none at all.

The only place in the world where there are more Men than women is in China and India, and that is because of ABORTION.

due to china's one-child policy, many parents kill their first daughter cuz they want a son (who can do work and provide for family).

In india, there is no such policy. Yet still, many scum decide to kill their daughters because they would much rather have a son.

This is likely why islam has permitted polygamy, it is true. If everyman had only one wife as their partner, there would be MANY women without any husband for them.

Some men just need to take care of the world's helpless and lonely women.

looking at this graph all the muslim countries have lower female populations. which means this graph is based on some really bad SURVEY.

just because in muslim countries women are not outside in the public as much as in kaffir countries, doenst mean we have lower females.

the muslim world has lowest rate of abortions and female-abortions. so there is no way that our male:female ratio will be similar to China and India, who actively practice female-abortion.

Maybe men in those countries are genetically predisposed toward producing mostly male offspring?

Using a map like that gives little indication of male to female population worldwide, because it does not show population statistics per country. China, for example, has the largest population of any country worldwide, and is followed by India. The two of them combined make up a little more than 1/3 of the total population of the world.

the chances for gving birth to a child is 50/50 for both male and female. its after the birth that most male die, either in infancy (due to weaker immune system then females) or later in life (due to work/war).

its only in china and india, that females are butchered before or after birth. due to one-child policy (in the case of china), or due to prejudice (in the case of india).

In the past many people have used this conclusion to promote polygyny. That's why, Mawlana sahab.
