In most of the Mosques there is a separate Imam and Muazzin(the one who gives the Adhan).

I think the wisdom behind it is to stress on the importance of Adhan and the one giving the Adhan . The Muazzin alone gets huge reward even if he is not the one leading the Salah.

Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “If anyone calls
the adhan
for seven years with the intention of reward, then freedom from Hell is
recorded for him.’

[Ibn e Majah 727]

Sayyidina Ibn Umar (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “Three will be
seated on mounds of musk.”
The narrator believes that he also said, “On the Day of
Resurrection.”
“The first and the last will envy them. (They are
1. A man who calls to prayer five times every day and night (that is, the mu’azzin).
2. A man who is the imam (leader) of a people and they are pleased with him, and
3. A man who gives the right of Allah and the right of his masters.’

[Ahmed 4799]

This is my own opinion. Maybe someone more knowledgable can give a scholarly opinion.

may be other are scared about to take the muazzin role, thats why he does. normally other give the azaan and imam leads the prayer. so that Imam gets his own virtue and muazzin gets virtue too.

Slightly OT, but what's the ruling regarding the same person giving Adhan/Iqamah and being the Imam?
Is there any karahah in it?
Is it recommended that two different person make Adhan/Iqamah and lead the prayer?
Is it recommended that the same person make Adhan and Iqamah?
