Really, you should be able to download them by clicking on the download button.

Is anybody else having similar problems?

Salam - u - Alaikum ,

I was searching on the net for some time to get hold of some information regarding salat according to shafi.
I am trying to pray for all the 5 times and would like to perfect it so I have downloaded the videos and book but I am having a few queries regarding the salat which are as follows : -

a) No of rakats for all the 5 prayers are they as follows : -
fajr : 2 sunnat - 2 farz
zahur: 4 sunnat - 4 farz - 2 sunnat - 2 naffal
asar: 4 sunnat - 4 farz
magrib: 3 farz - 2 sunnat - 2 naffal
aisha: 4 sunnat - 4 farz - 2 sunnat - 2 naffal - 3 vitar - 2 nafal.

b) How should we do niyyat for any namaz and when we should say salaam ?

Should we do it in parts like for example in Fajr namaz first we do niyyat for 2 rakats salat , perform 2 rakats , say salaam . Then do niyyat for 2 rakat farz , perform 2 rakats , then again say salaam.

OR

we can do niyyat for praying both 2 sunnat and 2 farz one time in the start of the fajr salat and perform both the sunnat and farz rakats then to close the prayer do salaam at the end.

Kindly help me in perfecting my namaz.

As-salamu 'alaykum,

Merely knowing what prayer you are offering is sufficient niyah. So when you stand to do the takbirat al-ihram, you should know what prayer you are entering.
You do Taslim (as-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah) after doing Tashahhud, Salawat and any optional adiya(supplications).

Allah knows best

Yes. One niyyat for one salat.

"The recommendation of performing either two or four rakats before Isha is established by the general Prophetic recommendation to pray before each obligatory prayer (with the exception of Maghrib, because of the specific command to hasten its performance without delay). [Kasani, Bada'i` al-Sana'i`; Zayla`i, Tabyin al-Haqa'iq; Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar; Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah; Nawawi, al-Majmu`]]

"The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Between each set of calls to prayer [i.e. between each adhan and iqama] is a prayer." He repeated this three times, and then said, "For whoever wishes to do so." [Bukhari and Muslim from Abd Allah ibn Mughaffal (Allah be pleased with him)].

This is also the position of the Shafi`i school. [Nawawi, al-Majmu`]

The shafi'i scholars generally use the terms sunna and sunna mu'akkada to differentiate between sunna prayers (not nafl). Sunna mu'akkada are sunna prayers that the Prophet salla Allahu aleihi wa sallam never abandoned (not even when travelling), and sunna prayers are prayers that he sometimes left out.

1 Fajr = 2 raka' sunna mu'akkadah and 2 raka' fard prayer
2 Dhuhur = 2 raka' sunna mu'akkadah, 2 raka' sunna, 4 raka' fard, 2 raka' sunna mua'kkadah and 2 raka' sunna
3 'Asr = 4 raka' sunna and 4 raka' fard
4 Maghrib = 2 raka' sunna, 3 raka' fard 2 raka' sunna mu'akkadah
5 Isha = 2 raka' sunna, 4 raka' fard, 2 raka' sunna mu'akkadah

The optimal number of raka's for witr is eleven, and the minimum is one raka'
It's not sunna to pray anything after witr.
