Salam,

If we're living in the UK or US, Muslims by default take the government as their Wali.

Is the above statement correct?

And if it is, then does living in the UK/US currently contradict not taking a non Muslim as a Wali, which Muslims are not allowed to do? [This is my limited understanding, I don't know if its right]
