Default prayer and du'as in arabic or spanish?
Assalamualeykum brothers and sisters,

As some of you know I'm a recent convert to Islam and I'm learning right now the very basics. I have a few questions I could not solve just reading pamphlets and online books. First, when doing wudu, after washing the hands, rinsing the mouth and nose and washing the face and beard, I have to wash my forearms, and here comes my doubt. Have I to wash them from the elbow to the hand or from the hand to the elbow? And are the hands also included in the washing?
Second, when time for prayer comes I recite the Adhan and Iqama in arabic, I also do the takbir in arabic and, of course, I recite Qur'an in arabic, but, besides that can I use spanish for the du'as and the tashahud? What can I say in spanish during prayer without invalidating my it?
And last, are the du'as and invocations that are used throughout the day, for example seeking refuge from Satan before reading the Qur'an or asking for Allah's mercy when entering the masjid, to be said in arabic or can I use a suitable translation to spanish?
Please help!

Wasalam!

Assalamualeykum brothers and sisters,
Wa alaykumu s-salam.

Alhamdulillah. Welcome to Islam!

Have I to wash them from the elbow to the hand or from the hand to the elbow?
It's obligatory to wash that part (from the hand to the elbow).
It is up to you whether to wash it from the elbow to the hand or vise versa.
However, it is sunnah (recommended by the prophet Muhammad ) to wash from the hand first, then only to the elbow.

And are the hands also included in the washing?
Yes.

besides that can I use spanish for the du'as and the tashahud? What can I say in spanish during prayer without invalidating my it?
You can't use other languages during the prayer. A prayer starts with takbir and it ends with salam. So, you can't use Spanish for tashahud as tashahud is inside the prayer.
However, you may use Spanish in your dua after you've done your prayer (after you've given salam).

And last, are the du'as and invocations that are used throughout the day, for example seeking refuge from Satan before reading the Qur'an or asking for Allah's mercy when entering the masjid, to be said in arabic or can I use a suitable translation to spanish?
You can perform dua whenever you want. And you can also dua in your own language. Allah is al-A'lam, which means Allah knows everything. So, don't worry bro. Allah knows Spanish as well.

Anyway, there is a recitation which is sunnah to be practiced as to seek refuge from Satan before reciting the al-Qur'an.
It is sunnah to say أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم (A'udhu billahi minash shaitanir rajim) before reciting the al-Qur'an.
It means I seek shelter in Allah from the rejected Satan.

Wallahu a'lam.

Salam both of you.

During a compulsory prayer, it is also allowed to make your dua while in prostration in your native language. But only in prostration. This is because if you are more fluent in that language then it is easier for you to ask for what you want.

But if youre just making dua, and not praying then like the brother above said, its allowed to be done in any language.

As-salaamu `alaykum,

Sidi, that applies to our madh'hab, but I do not think the Hanafiyya accept this position in their madh'hab.

Be mindful of differences of madhahib when addressing these questions, the brother is new to Islam, best not to confuse him and wait for the Hanafis to answer his questions.

It's difficult to choose a madhab. I chose the hanafi just because a muslim friend handed a fiqh manual in spanish that is from the hanafi school and as there was nothing available at moment I did it that way, but now I bought from an islamic bookstore here in madrid a book called The Maliki Reesalah (A Tretise on Creed and Fiqh) which has made me doubt of my previous choice, not to speak most muslims here are from Morocco and maliki as far as I know. And besides there are the salafis also preaching in a mosque near my home but they say things that confound me still more.
