I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on istikhaara

is it a dua or a salah? how is it performed?

i understand it is performed when making decisions such as the prospect of marrying someone
but can it be performed for other things?...

i usually pray 2 nafl
Then do the dua in english.

i am not saying this is the correct way of doing it, but this is how i do it
