Default Sajdah Ta'zeem (prostration of respect) - Haraam or Shirk? Or Both?
As salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah,

We know that performing Sajdah out of respect is something which was permissible in the previous Shariahs, but was made forbidden for the Ummah of Mohammad (sallallahu 'alahi wa sallam).

However, if one did perform Sajdah out of respect would he/she be guilty of commiting an act which is Haraam or an act of Shirk? And why?

wa alaikum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

Based on my research, which is not very extensive, such act is unlawful and if one intends to worship the person he is prostrating to it is kufr.
