Salaam.
I've read Imam al-Ghazali's book about mistakes during prayer. And he quoted a hadith which says a prayer is not valid because the of his ruku and sujud. He ruku perfectly but his sujud is not perfect or he sujud perfectly but his ruku is not perfect. So, my question is, is the salat still valid if you ruku and sujud perfectly but you don't do others perfectly (like standing, sitting, tashahhud and salaam)? And Imam al-Ghazali also quoted a hadith which says there are many who wake up in the middle of the night to do tahajjud, but most of them don't get anything but just tiredness. So, may second question is, besides ruku and sujud perfectly, is it compulsory (wajib) to have your mind and your heart together in the prayer? |

Imam al-Ghazali, in his works generally and his ihyaa' specifically (where I remember seeing the narration you mentioned), puts more coniditons on us then the fuqaha'. He argues that although your salah may be valid in the fiqhi sense, it may not be worthy of acceptance and reward from Allah, unless you indeed had prescence (hudur, khushu') throughout the salah.
