The title says it all.

I have just been wondering if it is seen as haraam in Islam for someone to have life insurance. My friends say that it is haraam because it is seen as gambling but I think that if a father gets life insurance it is ok because if he dies then the money will go to providing the family and he is fulfilling his role isn't he?

Also, on a recent holiday my dad said he wanted to get me the best life insurance no matter how high the price is, because the holiday before I got into an accident and nearly died. Would it still be seen as haraam?
