I asked Faraz Rabbani this question. He said, " I honestly don't know". The fact that you can get apps for free that you would otherwise have to pay for sounds like stealing to me so I haven't jailbroken.

In terms of which law? Shariah or the laws of the land. Who cares if its illegal in terms of the man made laws. The issue here is whether it is acceptable Islamically. The likes of Bill Gates rip us off, charging extortionate prices, for what most people deem a necessity and irrespective of whether some people deem capitalism an Islamic concept. This is clearly day light robbery, where the rich fill their pockets with billions and the poor struggle working in his cr4ppy factories on minimum wage in rubbish conditions. Not though I am legitimising it, Its just my thoughts.

Who cares if its illegal in terms of the man made laws. Mufti Muhammad b. Adam on Obeying the Law of the Land

and from Mufti Taqi Uthmani's fatwa on Copyright:

Thirdly, even if the government is not a pure Islamic government, every citizen enters into an express or a tacit agreement with it to the effect that he will abide by its laws in so far as they do not compel him to anything which is not permissible in Shariah. Therefore, if the law requires a citizen to refrain from an act which was otherwise permissible (not mandatory) in Shariah he must refrain from it. and in case you are a salafi:

fatwa on sh. Salman al-Oadah's site

I meant legal as in laws of the land. You have to follow the law of the land you are living in as long as it doesen't go against Shariah. And jailbreaking is legal. But there are programs after you jailbreak to get free apps like installous. So jailbreaking doesen't necessarily mean getting free apps. So does using those programs to get free apps constitute as stealing? Thats the question

Yes, its now legal but it still voids your warranty.

Interesting article (bit old tho): http://news.yahoo.com/s/ytech_wguy/ytech_wguy_tc3236

Wouldnt it be permissible to jailbreak so that you can use freeware/shareware rather then for using pirated software? For example, I remember the issues with the first iPhone not having MMS as a feature so people had to install other programs just to make use of the MMS feature.
