Default Riyaadh al-Saaliheen with commentary?

1) Is there an English commentary of Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn available?

2) What is the best Arabic commentary (sharḥ) of Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn for laymen?

as Salamu alaikum,

As far as Arabic commentaries go then Dalil al-Falihin of Ibn 'Allan is among the most beneficial. Nuzhat al-Muttaqin by Dr.Mustafa Khinn and Mustafa Bugha is simplified and quite useful.

Salaam,

I think that post by sr. mercyofAllah refers to the commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf: http://www.darussalam.com/English-Bo...duct_info.html

I know that Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (RA) wrote a commentary on it although I haven't seen it in any UK bookstores. But I have heard from brothers that it's a brilliant one! It's probably only available in Arabic.

Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali's Jami'ul 'uloom wal hikam. Published by Turath. The book's format is very nice. Hadith, sayings of Sahabah and tabi'een, fiqhi rulings, commentary etc.

It's worth the buy imo.

I meant to say the commentary that is found in the arabic version. He also was responsible for sourcing out the proofing for each mentioned hadith since Sheikh Yusuf [ May Allah enlighten his grave] did not include them in his original

Could you (or anyone) tell us more about Mawlana Ilyas Barabangi sahib? I know zero about him besides the fact that he wrote the Hayatus Sahabah Sharh.

which has commentry of Ryadus Saleehin Translated by Imam Abadasamad Clark. The publisher is Turath Publishing. http://www.turath.co.uk/
Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali's Jami'ul 'uloom wal hikam. Published by Turath. The book's format is very nice. Hadith, sayings of Sahabah and tabi'een, fiqhi rulings, commentary etc.

May Allāh reward you brothers, but that book is not a commentary of Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn, it is a commentary on Imām Nawawī's (RA) collection of 40 aḥādīth.

I've heard about a commentary by Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn (RA) too and I am very interested, however I can't find it anywhere?

Do you have any links?

This doesn't answer your question but Riyadu's-Salihin was compiled for laymen. It is too simple and obvious without needing any sharh.

Personally I dislike reading works of aḥādīth without any scholarly commentary, because I want to make sure that what I understand from a hadīth is also correct according to the scholars. From my own experience most if not all the lay people usually end up interpreting the aḥādīth on their own and try to deduce from them rulings even though they are not capable to do so. (Including myself.)

I think it was Shaykh al-Ḥadīth Muḥammad Zakariyyā (RA) who deplored the fact that people are reading aḥādīth without commentary and/or that works of ḥadīth are published with no scholarly commentary whatsoever. If I remember correct he stated this at the end of his treatise "The Differences of the Imams".

But maybe it is just me being an ignorant and others might very well be more intelligent and apt than this joker...

Please keep me in your duʿā, will you?

it still got some need of sharh for laymen, thats what i felt as a laymen. and while our local imam saab reads riyadus salihin, people keep asking him what the hadith meant.
