Default praying fard salat at home...
assalamu 'alaikum -

Mu understanding is that salat in masjid is a confirmed sunna (and 27x more reward). Praying at home without excuse for fard salat is sinful but lifts the obligation from you. Given this, if someone prays every salat at home alone on time and never goes to the masjid but knows he is sinning, does this keep him in fold of Islam (since the divider between islam and kufr is salat), also will he evetually get to jannah if he is not a hippocrite?

Salaam, Salaat in the masjid is a fard kifaya, meaning, a communal obligation, meaning, their must be a group prayer in the masjid/mosque of a particular area or else the whole community is sinful. And if by chance one prays there (may Allaah allow us to pray every prayer in jama^ah) then the reward is multiplied. If one prays at home, alone, and the communal obligation was fulfilled by other than him, than this is NOT sinful and affects the rewardability of the prayer, not the validity of it.

Also, there is difference of opinion about the salaat and kufr point you raised, nonetheless, even those who said it is blasphemy to not pray, said if one does NOT pray, not if one prays alone. Again, one is only sinful for praying alone at home if the fard kifaya (communal obligation of prayer in jama^ah) was not fulfilled.

One can pray jama^ah with a brother, sister, mother, father, friend, cousin, wife etc etc at home and receive the reward for it. Of course, it is much more better to go to the masjid.

One enters jannah even if his/her heart holds one atoms worth of Iman, bi 'iznillaah.

please note that the OP is hanafi. However, even though the shafi' view is a bit lenient, we should understand that abandoning a regular practice of rasoolullah (S.A.W.), without any valid excuse is not an attitude acceptable from a true muslim, even though it may not be regarded as a sin.

I remember seeing somewhere that in the shafi' madhab jamaath namaz is fardh kifaya on the inhabitants of a locality, however on an individual basis it is sunnah muakkada on every male adult. I am not an alim. So someone with more knowledge can please clarify or confirm this.

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "By Him in Whose Hand my soul is I was about to order for collecting fire-wood (fuel) and then order Someone to pronounce the Adhan for the prayer and then order someone to lead the prayer then I would go from behind and burn the houses of men who did not present themselves for the (compulsory congregational) prayer. By Him, in Whose Hands my soul is, if anyone of them had known that he would get a bone covered with good meat or two (small) pieces of meat present in between two ribs, he would have turned up for the 'Isha' prayer.'

Bukhari :: Book 1 :: Volume 11 :: Hadith 626
Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, "No prayer is harder for the hypocrites than the Fajr and the 'Isha' prayers and if they knew the reward for these prayers at their respective times, they would certainly present themselves (in the mosques) even if they had to c awl." The Prophet added, "Certainly I decided to order the Mu'adh-dhin (call-maker) to pronounce Iqama and order a man to lead the prayer and then take a fire flame to burn all those who had not left their houses so far for the prayer along with their houses."

Muslim :: Book 4 : Hadith 1374
Abu Huraira reported: There came to the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) a blind man and said: Messenger of Allah, I have no one to guide me to the mosque. He, therefore, asked. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) permission to say prayer in his house. He (tee Holy Prophet) granted him permission. Then when the man turned away he called him and said: Do you hear the call to prayer? He said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet then) said: Respond to it.


Many time i failed to join in congregation in mosque. Brother pray for me that i can perform salat in mosque.

actually the true auliya are very particular about this matter even though in some madhabs there could be some leeeway...with regards to the hanafis its very clear...pray at the masjid..the true auliya would never miss takbir-e-ula...may ALLAH give me taufiq firstly and then the rest of the ummah. I've have always used this criteria for distinguishing the true and fake sufis. I found the fake sufis would abandon salah with jamaat and instead pray at home like ladies...they would give more important to the wird of their shaykh then salah with jamah as mentioned by shah waliullah...actually a few times I have been ill and not been able to go masjid and trust me iman goes very low...anyway may our masjids be full once again...may we all have the ability to come early...pray sunnahs...and then fardh...with jamaah..ameen...duas

Excellent question.

I guess those respected Awliyāʾullāh all lived in Dār al-Islām, where there is an abundance of masājid in every city.

Muslim in the West, which is Dār al-Kufr, obviously have far less masājid available in their areas and thus the difficulty to perform all prayers with the first takbīr in the masjid.

may i ask, do i have to pray fard in mosques (just walk in and pray on my own), or do i have to pray it in congregation. as sometimes i miss the jamath times.

If you are a male then you must get in the habit of attending Jamaa'ah [jamaat] Salah, wherein the Imam leads the prayer and you follow. However, if you pray alone at home, the prayer is still valid.

If you attend the Mosque and the prayer has already begun then the scenario is different.

Moreover, if there is a Mosque in your locality, then keep in touch with it, for it is essential in protecting and strengthening one's Imaan because Shaytaan [the wolf] preys on a lone sheep.
