Assalamo Alaikum,
Enrolling as a "visiting student" in a lecture course this summer with a friend. I live beyond that college's "local" boundaries, so I'll pay double tuition - as will my friend. A friend told me to lie about my address. I said, "No - that's stealing." To which my friend said, "You'll be paying 2x as much as the student next to you just because your address dictates it. How is that stealing? If you lived within boundaries, you'd be paying 1/2 what they expect you to currently pay. You're not hurting them by paying 1/2 tuition." My friend may possibly lie about her address to pay cheaper tution. I dunno how to rationally present the argument that lying about an address to pay 1/2 college tuition is stealing. Any help? |

Salam aleikum
The school has the right to put whatever conditions they want, and if someone wants to attend they have to abide by these conditions. To give a false address would entail two sins, lying and appropriating a right that doesn't belong to you. If someone is not happy with the conditions set up by this school they have the option not to go, but they have no right to lie. |
