In the name of Allah, the All Merciful, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, who causes those whom He wishes, sincerity in intention and in action, secretly and openly. And peace be upon our Master Muhammad who has been sent to all beings as an illuminating lamp and upon his Noble family and companions - peace [upon them all] in abundance. As you or some of you may have read in the news recently, The Yorker has released a news article about Mufti [Abu Abdillah] Muhammad Ibn Adam al-Kawthari [hafidhahullah], making him a target of false allegations. Mufti Muhammad Ibn Adam currently runs a website [www.daruliftaa.com] dealing with queries that communities across the world have. In this website he answers their queries and concerns. I do not wish to mention the allegations set by the ignorant people. Rather we make du'aa that Allah guide such poor people to the truth, Aameen. You are all welcome to view the news article: Click here Mufti Muhammad clears the allegations and misquoted Fataawaa in his recent lecture: Click here You can find the other parts on the youtube channel which uploaded the above video. Before concluding I would like to remind myself first and then others of the status of 'Ulamaa [scholars] in Islam. ‘Allamah ‘Alusi [Rahimahullah] writes in Rūhul Ma‘āni that Allah Ta’ala says: “Allah will raise the ranks of those who believe among you.” [Surah al-Mujādilah, 58: 11] He follows this by saying: “And those who have been given knowledge.” Those who have been given knowledge Ulama are also included among “those who believe” and their praise is included in the first part of the verse. So why did Allah Ta’ala mention them separately by saying “and those who have been given knowledge”? ‘Allamah Alusi Sayyid Mahmūd Baghdādī [Rahimahullah] says that no matter how great propagators all the believers may become, no matter how great worshippers they may become, even if they have the ability to fly in the air, they cannot compare with “those who have been given knowledge”. ‘Allamah Alusī [Rahimahullah] says that by Allah Ta’ala mentioning the Ulama separately in this verse, He accorded them with honour which He did not accord to anyone else. [part of the information maybe found in -The greatness of Knowledge-Kutub Khāna Mazhari –Pg 42] Abu Umaamah [Radhiyallaahu ‘anhu] narrates that Rasulullaah [Sallallaahu ‘alayhi Wassallam] said “the superiority of a learned person over a worshipper is like my superiority over the lowest of you” [Tirmidhī Sharīf] Abu Darda [Radhiyallaahu ‘anhu] relates that Rasulullaah [Sallallaahu ‘alayhi Wassallam] said,”….And indeed all inhabitants of the heavens and the earth- including the fish in the water- seek forgiveness for a learned person [Scholar]. “The superiority of a learned person over a worshipper is like the superiority of the moon over the stars, i.e. in brightness and size to the viewer.” [Abu Dawūd, Tirmidhī, An-Nasa’ī, Ibn Mājah, Ibn Hibbān, Al-Bayhaqi, At-Tabrāni] Abu Darda [Radhiyallaahu ‘anhu] “Indeed, the scholars are the inheritors of the Prophet. Verily the Prophets do not leave gold or silver coins as inheritance, they only leave behind knowledge. Thus, he who acquires knowledge acquires a large share of this inheritance.” [bu Dawūd, Tirmidhī, An-Nasa’ī, Ibn Mājah, Ibn Hibbān, Al-Bayhaqi, At-Tabrāni] "However, an Alim is a human being. He is bound to err. Overlook him and benefit from his knowledge. If one cannot benefit from an Alim for some reason, then leave that Alim with respect, just as one will leave a torn Qur’ān with respect. No one condemns such a Qur’ān. Identify another Alim and benefit from him." - Muftī Ebrahim Desai. And Allah Ta'āla Knows Best, I ask Allah to guide the ignorant and to protect the 'Ulamaa of Islam against false allegations and to preserve them. Aameen. May Allaah forgive us all and guide us to that which He adorns, Aameen. I leave your affairs to Allaah. |
