I have read a hadith on SunniPath about Hadrat Ali. He prayed 4 rakat in the middle of the night /Thursday-Friday/ because he couldn't memorise some ayat of the Quran. After he did this it was easy for him.

Now I am looking for the hadith but can't find it on SunniPath Help!

I have a question. Can I pray this salah while looking at the mushaf since I haven't memorised these suras?

According to Hanafi madhab reading from a Mushaf while praying nullifies the prayer; because of first amal kathir (more unralated disturbance or work) and second learning by indoctrinating from outside the prayer. There are exceptions to this for Tarawih prayer only. Imam Abu Yusuf and Imam Muahammad consider it valid but makruh reciting from Mushaf in Tarawih prayer.

I don't know what the stance of other madhahib is.
