ASSALAM O ALAIKUM : A moulana was debating on kissing thumb after listening the name of Prophet saww. He said that it is written in fatawa Shami (i guess this was the name) that Hadhrat Abubakr RA did this when he heard Muhammad SAWW's name during adhan IN PRESENCE OF PROPHET SAWW.

If it is really the case then why it is called bada't by deoband ulama???

Imam Dailmi quotes this hadith of Abu Bakr Siddiq (Radi allahu anhu), "When Abu Bakr Siddiq (Radhiallahu Taala Anhu) heard the Muazzin say he read and kissed the segmented part of the fingers of Shahadah from the inside and placed them on his eyes. Upon this the Beloved Prophet of Allah said,"Whoever does like my friend has done, for him my intercession (Shafa'ah) will become halal"

Kissing the thumbs upon hearing the name of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] has no basis in Shari?ah. To carry out such an act as a Sunnah is bid?ah and sin.

Did Mufti Ebrahim Desai actually said that. All i could find from the askimam website is that they could not establish the act being done on regular basis as carried out by our berlwi brothers to be a mutahab. There seems to be question with regards to the authencity. To label it as clear biddah seems odd here.

I know. I too was enjoying when he nearly created a stampede for designing a name. In India Deoband is not unknown but perhaps he wanted a technical info.
