Default introduction
hi, hope everybody is well.

im just here for some advice really, im a 23 year old female from just outside london. for some time ive been very curious about islam, have read into it a little bit and would like to take the step of seriously studing it and maybe joining a mosque. i have a mosque in my road, i sometimes think about going in and talking to someone there but i dont really know what the correct etiquette is (as in is it ok to just wander in and speak to someone and should i wear a scarf-if so i dont have one let alone know how to put on on). i dont want to offend anybody in any way.

thanks for your time, if you could help id appreciate it.

Hello, raine. Welcome!

You should feel free to visit the mosque. I'm sure the sisters would be very happy to welcome you there. If it's a large mosque they should have an administrative office. If you decide to walk in without calling first to make an appointment with a sister, you may want to head first to this office. It's good if you dress modestly. People's opinions on whether you should wear a hijab/head covering in the mosque before converting will differ. Don't fret about it.

Again, the sisters will be very excited to meet and welcome you. I'm sure the imam will also greet you with warmth and joy. They should all be available to chat with you and answer any questions and suggest readings for you.

Also feel free to ask any questions you have while you're on this site. Everyone will be appreciative of your seeking.

May Allah, glorified and exalted, continue to guide you to the peace and beauty of Islam.

You may start with this book " The Book of Strangers " written by an English revert.
Good reviews of this book can be found in Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Book-Strangers.../dp/0671820826

While I have read many books on Islam and Sufism, I have not encountered another work quite like this one. Most books on Islam intended for Westerners pander to modern beliefs and prejudices, treating it either as a relic of the past requiring modernization or as a threatening political force. This book treats Islam not as an intellectual or historical abstraction, but rather details the thoughts of a man, initially utterly submerged in the lies and half-truths upon which modern Western society is based, as he abandons his prejudices and comes into contact with the genuine reality offered by spirituality.
----------------------
Joining a mosque is not enough. Because, there are many groups which claim to represent Islam.
In reality , many groups are deviant fully or corrupted partially. So , if you visit a mosque belonging to
a corrupt group , you find a dry or annoying version of Islam.

So , you have to be careful to choose the right mosque belonging to the right group within Islam.
But , to choose a right group , you need some basic knowledge about Islam. The book , I have mentioned , will lead you to the amazingly brilliant version of Islam .
