Seems that no one is interested in fasting.

for such a helpful reminder!

I have a question about fasting - not sure if it goes here, but I'm hoping someone will help me .

When I fast I get horrible migraines that last for days and feel sick, weak, and shakey for days afterwards even if I only fast for one day and take sahur before hand. Outside of Ramadan it can take me almost a week to recover from one day of fasting.

During Ramadan I'm practically useless and am often afraid of going places for fear of fainting.
I also would like to fast more sunnah & nafl fast but I have so much to do that I can't lie down all day or take days off afterwards.

Is there something(dua? food?) I can do to make it a little easier so I can still function?

salaam sister, Alhmd. not a big problem, i don't know if it is going to work for u but alhmd. it worked for me. One sister gave this idea. just try it, she recommended me to take headache medication (tylenol), 1 tb. 500mg.in sahoor after food, alhmd. it worked then i could fast in ramadhan without any problem. u can check with ur doctor for the strength of the medication that u can tolerate, cz. different brands differ in strength.
Sister;

for the suggestion.
I have plenty of tylenol around for when I get headaches so I'll give that a try next time .

Anyone have suggestions for the weakness, shakeyness, and being on the edge of fainting?

P.S. I do try to drink a lot of fluids when I'm not fasting and will keep water and/or juice near me all night when I know I'll be fasting so I don't lose too many fluids .

sister u are very weak, don't jump on fasting yet. If @abutmim is online he will guide u Inshallah, @abutamim is a very famous doctor and Almhd. he has shifa(cure) in his hand.
again Sister;

for your helpful response.
I'm not sure if you mean weak physically or in Iman?
I'm not under weight nor overweight and eat well .

I'll be looking forward to any help or suggestions from Brother Abu Tamim or anyone who has any to offer .

Wa Salaam.

sister i mean healthwise cz. u mentioned ur symptoms weakness, shakyness and fainting, and also u mentioned about taking fluids frequently that made me worried about ur health. btw. sister i can't judge anyones imaan and i don't have any right to judge u or anyone regarding imaan or any other religious issues. jazak sis. for clarification. take care..Allah hafiz.

for your help and your concern.
I never thought of myself as weak so I wasn't sure what you meant.
I just thought it was harder for me - or perhaps it's what others go through as well and I just am not handling it properly.

I also thought perhaps such difficulty in fasting could be the symptom of a weaker Iman but Allah knows best. I didn't think you were judging me sister, I felt you always had good intentions .

Changing one's diet to include primarily fruits and vegetables, especially when fasting, can be very beneficial. Also, drink milk at suhoor and at futoor; there will be much benefit.

May Allah bless you with Shifa-e-Kaamila sister. What you are describing is known as Typical or Classical Migraine and such headaches are often brought on by fasting. What you need to do is visit a good Consultant who will take you on a course of medicines which we call "Migraine Prophylaxis", usually a beta blocker combined with an anti histaminic. This will prevent your headache from starting, Inshallah. Another good idea would be to take an Aspirin or a Paracetamol tab with your Suhur. Also drink lots of liquids after iftaar.

for the suggestions. I definitely need to include more fruits and vegetables into my diet. I don't usually drink much milk, so perhaps adding more of it will also help .

for your suggestions and for your dua.
I'll have to make an appointment with my doctor .
I get headaches often but I never think to see my dr. about them unless I actually have one, and by the time I can see my dr. it's gone. Then I don't think about it again until the next time....

Until I can get an appointment I'll start with all that I've been suggested(fruits & vegetable, milk, tylenol with Suhur, and liquids after iftaar).

Jazak Allah Khayr for all the kindness and help I've received here. And I apologize if I derailed your thread Brother Abu Tamim.

Yes brother abutamim is a good doctor here but no Shifa(Cure) in his hand. Good medicine prescribed by brother abutamim is a Wasial here, but ultimate shifa is in Allah's hand.

Following hadiths r showing who gives Shifa(Cure)

Narrated 'Aisha: Allah's Apostle used to treat with a Ruqya saying, "O the Lord of the people! Remove the trouble The Cure is in Your Hands, and there is none except You who can remove it (the disease) . " (Bukhari: Book #71, Hadith #640)

Narrated 'Aisha: Allah's Apostle used to read in his Ruqya, "In the Name of Allah" The earth of our land and the saliva of some of us Cure our patient with the permission of our Lord." with a slight shower of saliva) while treating with a Ruqya. (Bukhari: Book #71, Hadith #642)

Saliva is a Wasila here & this Wasila will work only with the permission of our Lord.

can br.@rq reply to post#15. regarding fasting on Mondays and thursdays.

cz. i read fasting on ayyaame- beed was commanded by our Rasool (s.a.w.s) where as fasting on thursdays and Mondays was the sunnah of Rasool(s.a.w.s) so it is recommended to fast these days as well.
It is recommended to fast on Mondays and Thursdays as well as the bright days of the month.

Taken from other site.

Praise be to Allaah.

If we want to discover which is better, fasting on Mondays and Thursdays or fasting three days of each month, we find that fasting on Mondays and Thursdays is better than fasting on three days of each month, because if a person fasts on Mondays and Thursdays each week, that means that he is fasting eight days each month, so he will have done both: fasted on Mondays and Thursdays and fasted three days of the month.

The three days of each month may be fasted at the beginning of the month, in the middle or at the end, and may be done separately or consecutively, but it is better to fast on the ayaam al-beed, which are the days on which the moon is full, namely the 13th, 14th and 15th of each lunar month.

There follow a number of ahaadeeth which encourage fasting on Mondays and Thursdays:

1 – It was narrated from Abu Qataadah al-Ansaari that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about fasting on Mondays. He said: “On that day I was born, and on it the Revelation came to me.” Narrated by Muslim, 1162.

2 – It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was keen to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 745; al-Nasaa’i, 2361; Ibn Maajah, 1739; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1044.

3 – It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Deeds are shown (to Allaah) on Mondays and Thursdays, and I like my deeds to be shown when I am fasting.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 747; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1041.

The following ahaadeeth encourage fasting on three days of each month:

1 – It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “My close friend [the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] advised me to do three things which I will not give up until I die: fasting three days of each month, praying Duha, and sleeping after Witr. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1124; Muslim, 721.

2 – It was narrated from Mu’aadhah al-‘Adawiyyah that she asked ‘Aa’ishah, the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), “Did the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) fast three days of every month?” She said, “Yes.” She said to her: “Which days of the month did he fast?” She said, “He did not mind which days of the month he would fast.” Narrated by Muslim, 1160.

3 – It was narrated from Jareer ibn ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Fasting three days of each month is fasting for a lifetime, and ayaam al-beed are the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.” Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 2420; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1040.

4 – It was narrated that Abu Dharr (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to me: “If you fast any part of the month, then fast the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 761; al-Nasaa’i, 2424; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1038.

There is broad scope in the command to fast three days, as it says in the hadeeth of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her), but the best days of the month for fasting are the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth, as it says in the other saheeh ahaadeeth.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked: When fasting three days of every month, is it essential that it be only on the ayyaam al-beed? Or is it permissible to fast any three days of the month?

He replied:

It is permissible to fast at the beginning of the month, in the middle or at the end, on consecutive days or separately. But it is better if it is done on the three ayyaam al-beed, which are the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth. ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on three days of every month, and he did not mind whether he fasted at the beginning or at the end of the month. End quote.
