whilst in jamaat in manchester i met a really nice elderly man who spent the full three days with our jamaat. mashAllah he was a very fikr'mund sathi (concerned for the ummat). what is even more amazing is that he had very bad eyesight due to glaucoma and could not see objects unless they were directly under his nose. anything beyond that he would just see as shapes and colours. he told me how he met a new muslim brother called colin. he was sitting in a masjid when colin walked in and told him that he has been a muslim for a couple of weeks but he does not know anything, i.e how to pray, tahara, halal and haram etc. he took me to meet colin. he looked around 45-50 years old and was a single parent with 3 kids living with him. he was very happy to see us but was busy at the time and said he will join us the next day. he came the next day to the masjid with one of his sons. (btw he is very concerned about bringing his kids onto the deen). he sat with the jamaat for a couple of hours and had to leave after that as he had left some of his kids at home. he was very happy to have spent a little time with the jamaat and was on the brink of tears when he was leaving. he asked me if he would see me again and i said inshallah i would. i would like to request some knowledgeable brothers who have wisdom and good character who live in manchester to visit him from time to time and help him to learn the basics of the deen. i could be wrong but i cannot see the local jamaat brothers taking on this task properly as they seem to be only concerned about going through the motions of the local work and getting it out of the way. the other brother i mentioned would find it hard to take this on on his own due to his disability. also it seems that some hardcore salafis have made a little contact with him and if we do not take on this responsibility then it would be our fault if he falls into their fitnah. if anyone can help then post on this thread and ask the mods for my email address. |
