Before bothering a Mufti I hope to find the ruling somewhere: does anyone of you know if it's permissible for men to tie one's hair in a "ponytail" way?

More or less in this way (it's not me in the picture!):

I know that Rasulullah and the Sahabah had their hair braided/plaited but I don't know how to braid hair and I have the doubt that a ponytail may be considered as imitation of women?

It's getting hot and even though the hair is still at a "permissible lenght" sometimes it's unbearable.
