Default The Concept of Al-Wala' wal-Bara

The concept of al-Wala' wal-Bara, which could be translated as 'Loyalty and Disavowal', has become a big issue amongst Salafis for some time now (in Germany at least). And I also think that it's a very relevant topic for Muslims in the West, so have any of our Ulema written on this? The usual 'Love and Hate for Allah's Sake' chapters/articles I've read so far seem to be written in another context and eventually don't deal with the essence of the afore-mentioned concept.

So, can anyone guide me towards something realiable to read about this?

Al-Walāʾ wal-Barāʾ is a key concept of Islām which is found in the Qurʿān and Ḥadīth.

For example look at verse 51 of Sūrat al-Māʾidah:

Also read Sūrat al-Mumtahinah, which is the 60th chapter of the Qurʾān.

Shaykh Saʿīd al-Qaḥṭānī (HA), a Ḥanbalī scholar, wrote a very good book on this concept and in there you will also find many references etc.. Also have a look at Shaykh Dr. Wasīm Fatḥullāh's book on the subject, which I attached to this post.

Beware of those who try to brandish this concept as un-Islamic or similar, for it is found in the Qurʾān and Ḥadīth!

I just heard a South African (Salafi) speaker giving a practical example of the concept in question: If a Muslim is selling a camera for 500 Rands and a Hindu sells the same for also 500 Rands, then it is compulsory on you to buy the camera of the Muslim. Is this correct or would be just recommended to buy from the Muslim? The answer to this would eventually shed some light on which status this concept should enjoy in Shariah and the daily life of a Muslim.

@al-Faruqi: You seem to have engaged yourself in this topic quite extensively.
