Default Mufti Mahmud Hasan (RAH) : The Sufi who recruited two Hazratji for Tabligh Jamat
Mufti Mahmud Hasan (RAH) contributed greatly for the movement of Tabligh Jamat. However, many TJ activists are unaware of his contribution. In the following linj you will find out what a great personality he was.

http://www.daralmahmood.org/muftimahmood.html

Mufti Mahmood ul Hasan Gangohi (rah) was the senior most khalifa of Hadrat Shaykh ul Hadith Maulana Zakariyyah Kandhalwi (rah). In addition he was the Head Mufti at Dar ul Uloom Deoband and Mazaahir ul Uloom for many years. Along with the responsibilites of Ifta (Fatwa writing) he taught the 2nd Volume of Sahih Bukhari at Dar ul Uloom Deoband, supervised the running of numerous madaris in India and also compiled Fataawa Mahmoodiyah, a copious reference book on Hanafi Fiqh rulings. A man of extreme piety and learning, he was not only a Faqih and a Sufi but also a Zaahid (ascetic). Every month not only would he return his salary to Dar ul Uloom Deoband, but also add something from his own pocket also.

Getting Hadrat Mauldnd Muhammad Yusuf (RAH) and Maulana Inamul Hasan (RAH) involved in the
Effort of the 'Tabligh Jamaat

Initially, Hadrat Maulana Muhammad Yusuf (RAH) and Maulana
In'amul Hasan (RAH) , the last Amir of the Tabligh Jama'at, did
not pay much attention to the effort of the Tabligh Jama'at.

They were more engrossed in the academic field. Hadrat
Maulana Ilyas (RAH) appointed Hadrat Mufti Sahib (RAH) to the
task of turning their attention towards the effort.

Consequently, Hadrat Wala (RAH) used some strategy and
wisdom to discuss with them on various occasions, thereby
dispelling their objections and doubts. In this manner, he
managed to turn their attention towards the effort of the
TablTgh Jama'at.

On one occasion, Hadrat Maulana Muhammad Yusuf (RAH) was
passing by the Hardoi station by train. Hadrat Wala (RAH) was
staying in Hardoi at the time and he led a large group of
people from Hardoi town to the station to meet Hadrat
Maulana Muhammad Yusuf (RAH). When Hadrat Maulana

Muhammad Yusuf (RAH) saw Hadrat Mufti Sahib (RAH), he called
him closer and said to him, "Many questions have cropped
up. First solve them before we have to meet anyone."

Hadrat Mufti Sahib (RAH) answered the questions quickly and
only then did the people get to meet Hadrat Maulana (RAH).

Hadrat Maulana (RAH) then said to Hadrat Mufti Sahib (RAH),
"Initially you used to be behind us all the time. Now that
you have got us involved, you have taken the back seat.
Now you do not even ask about us."

Hadrat Mufti Sahib (RAH) replied, "We have fulfilled the task that was
assigned to us and have succeeded. Do allow someone to sit in some
corner to study books otherwise you will be unable to find
someone to answer your questions."

When the objections of Maulana In'amul Hasan (RAH) were
settled and he was satisfied with the effort of the Tabligh
Jama'at, he was so pleased that he had a kurta and trousers
set made and presented it to JHadrat Mufti Sahib (RAH).
In the early years of the Tabligh Jama'at, Hadrat Mufti Sahib
(RAH) used to be accompany Hadrat Shaikh (RAH) and participate
in the mashwarah (consultations) of Hadrat Maulana Ilyas (RAH).

When Hadrat Maulana (RAH) was on his deathbed, Hadrat
Mufti Sajhib (RAH) spent approximately an entire month in
Nizamuddin in his service.

"We are the manufacturers while you are the
carriers":

On one occasion, Maulana In'amul Hasan (RAH) quoted the
statement of Hadrat Mufti Sahib (RAH), who said to him: "We
are the manufacturers (of Ulama in the Madrasahs) while
you are the carriers (who send them to various countries for
the effort of Tabligh)".

In the following lecture Mufti Mahmud Hasan (RAH) expressed clearly the true intention of Tabligh Jamat. However , sadly in some ( or many ? ) places present day TJ activists and their local elders are not aware of this purpose.

A lecture of Hadrat Mufti Sahib ( RAH )

By: Hadrat Mauling Fadlur Rahman 'Azmi (DB)

Hadrat Mufti Sahib (RAH), would often visit Dhabel where he
would stay for several days. He would conduct lectures and
gatherings there. After Fajr, he would conduct the dhikr
gathering where those participating would sit in a room that
faced qiblah and complete their dhikr audibly.
Hadrat Muft Sahib (RAH) would also be present there.

He would also conduct a gathering after Asr salah in which he mostly
answered the people's, questions. He would also deliver
lectures in neighbouring villages.

Hadrat Mufti Sahib (RAH) once delivered a lecture in the village
of Itawa (close to Dhabel) and the students and teachers of
Dhabel also managed to present themselves. When Hadrat
Mufti Sahib (RAH), sat on the chair to deliver the lecture after
the Isha sslah, an Alim whispered to him that they had just
completed their weekly ghusht that night. As far as I can
remember, Had_rat Mufti Sahib (RAH) , then dedicated the entire
lecture to the effort of TablTgh. He highlighted its importance
and extolled its virtues.

He mentioned that the effort of Tabligh is like rain, which reaches
every area whether people like it or not. Without asking remuneration from
people, it pours over the rivers and oceans just as it falls on
mountains, rocky ground and salt flats
. It is then according
to the potential of the ground that it either derives benefit
from the rain or is deprived. The rain water then collects in
dams and watering holes from which humans and animals
derive benefit for a long time. It is with this water that fields
are irrigated and crops grown. Had it not been for the rain,
even dams and wells would run dry.

Hadrat Mufti Sahib ( RAH), stated further that the Madrasahs and
Khanqahs are like the dams and wells. It is only those
people who go there who will derive benefit and then too,
only according to the effort they make
. The rivers and wells
neither go to the person suffering from thirst nor to those
who really need water. In fact, even these rivers and wells
will dry up without the rain. When the effort of Tabligh takes
place, its benefit reaches the average Muslim as well as the
Madrasahs and Khanqah.

Tabligh creates the urge in people, which in turn drives people to become students of
the Madrasahs and murids (disciples) at Khanqahs.

----------------------
May Allah save the great movement of Tabligh Jamat from misunderstanding and corruption.
