I wish to read a good and concise Hanafi fiqh manual. Im torn between these five: 1) Al-Hidayah 2) Nur al-Idah 3) Ascent to Felicity 4) Bahishti Zewar 5) al-Mukhtasar al-Quduri I was originally leaning towards reading #4, since it seems pretty basic, and many members have referred to it on numerous occasions. I read a bit of it online, and it seems like the easiest of the lot. I understand that #2 and #3 were both written by the same author, so whats the difference between them? Which is better? Also, I've heard that #1 is the best Hanafi fiqh manual ever written. How advanced is it? Should a layman like me read it? If any brothers or sisters have read any of the books listed above, please let me know if you'd recommend them to me. |

Thank you guys for the input, I've decided to read Bahishti Zewar. The others may be too advanced for a layman like me.
I've heard that Mukhtasar al-Quduri has some mistakes that Al-Hidaya had fixed. Is this true? I wouldn't expect this from a book upon which whole courses and seminars are built on. |

Thank you guys for the input, I've decided to read Bahishti Zewar. The others may be too advanced for a layman like me. I'd recommend Ascent to Felicity (Shaykhuna Faraz Rabbani, may Allah preserve him, does duroos of it through Seekers Hub) - you may benefit from those if you choose to. They are all free. After completing Ascent to Felicity you may move on to Nur al-Idah. |

I second the Ascent to Felicity by White Thread Press. It's straight forward, well written and doesn't get into proofs. Al-Hidaya of Turath Publishing is more detailed, much thicker and has proofs, it's more of a reference source I'd say for a regular person. I cannot comment on the other books as I haven't not used or read them to any significant extent.

I'll take your advice and inshAllah try to get my hands on Ascent to Felicity. I'll still probably read Bahishti Zewar before or after it though. |

brother, I would also recommend Ascent to Felicity and Ta'leemul Haq. Both were recommended to me by brothers and sisters here on SF, may Allah Ta'aala be pleased with them and reward them all abundantly. Ameen. I found both Ascent to Felicity and Ta'leemul Haq to be very beneficial, alhamdulillah. Like you, I too was advised to start with the basics - hence the recommendation for the two named here. I'm not sure if Ascent to Felicity is available free of charge online but, as you likely already know, Ta'leemul Haq is. [EDIT: The Beginning of Guidance is also very beneficial, alhamdulillah. Not sure if this and even Ascent to Felicity should be studied under the guidance of a teacher... we probably would gain the most benefit by doing so, insha'Allah.] |

Behishti Zewar is not an entry level book. If you have not read anything at all as yet, start with smaller text. Ascent maye good. You can try Ta'leemul Haq too. Then go for Behishti. Many things in Behishti Zewar need qualified guidance for understanding. Infact it is more indepth than Nur ul Idaah. The only reason it is recomended is because of its good style and being contemporary book. I've read a bit of Ta'leemul Haq, but only the salah related sections. Isn't Bahishti Zewar easier than Ascent? But now you are saying its more in depth than even Nur al-Idah? Ok, so heres the new plan First I will read Ascent to Felicity, then Bahishti Zewar. After that, if im not to overwhelmed, I'll try out Nur al-Idah. hows that? |
