And even in case of Arabic recitation we should remember the Hadith that whoever has finished the Noble Qur'an in less than three days has understood nothing.
Could you please post the Hadith that makes this statement?

Even that type of "parrot reading" will earn the reciter hasanat Yeah, but the Qur'an is a book of guidance, and guidance comes from knowing what it says. As a child, I could recite all these verses of Qur'an, but if anyone asked me what the Quran was about I would not have been able to answer. Don't you think that's sad?

How many of you have read complete Qur'an in your native language (translation that is) ? I've read the English meaning. The whole Qur'an I think, or nearly all.

I don't think that's sad when you were a child. It would be sad if an adult had that problem. If a child has the ability to learn the meaning of the Qur'an along with memorizing it, then tabarakallahu ahsanul khaliqeen. And if he doesn't, then I don't see a problem with that so long as he makes effort to learn it gradually. Otherwise it's misplaced expectations imho. I think a child memorizing words verbatim in a foreign language is ingenious in itself, and if the meanings are also learned from a young age, then that makes one a super genius in my book.

Point I'm trying to get at Sister, is that one is a genius and the other is a bigger genius. At the end of the day both are geniuses. Shoot to be a super genius but at the same time the regular genius shouldn't be looked down on just because he's not a super genius.

Everything connected to the Qur'an has barakah and hasanat, even just looking at the words of Allah without understanding and reciting has benefit.

We can shoot for the stars without trampling those walking on earth.

On the authority of Abdullaah Ibn 'Amr (may Allaah be pleased with them both),

the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: "The one who reads/recites the Qur'aan in less than three days does not have understanding."

Abu Daawud, At-Tirmidhee, Ibnu Maajah...Saheeh

Thank you for posting the Hadith brother. May Allah (swt) reward you for your effort.

I am also surprised that was the first time I had ever heard about the three day minimum?!?!

I read an English translation of the Qur'an, now I'm trying to memorise the vocabulary of the Qur'an offered by Sunnipath. (http://spl.qibla.com/Quran/Q0003R0000.aspx)
Especially now during tarawee it annoys me that I didn't do this before. To have a full understanding of what the Imam actually recites would be so much better for mental concentration.
