We are all prone to make errors and it will be nice to have sort of regular and frequent reminder of common mistakes made by non-native users of this language. Mr Rafi Ahmed Masoodi, a senior teacher, has very kindly started discussing simple linguistic matters for our benefit. This thread is being created to discuss such matters that will help us in using English language correctly. The only thing wrong I can see wrong with the passage is the use of speech marks for some speech and the lack of speech for other parts of the passage.

The way the bold part 'want' used here implies that the manager is wanted on the table in the place of chicken??

In the meanwhile other brothers and sisters can tell us about the best English translation from Urdu/Persian/Arabic of any book in modern times. The problem is that there are enough bad translations and because of the importance of deen in life the language of translation itself should be attractive, pleasant, soothing and enjoyable. Since many of us keep translating things it will benefit all of us if we have some good translation standards. So any suggestions? You may kindly post paragraphs from your favourite translation. I personally enjoy Abdullah Yusuf Ali's translation. And I also love Pickthall - its old world English charm is very seductive. Then I was bold over by Guy Eaton's idiom. In earlier writers Syed Amir Ali was very majestic writer.

Assalamu Alaikum, The Urdu saying is:

Kawwaa chala Hans ki chaal (The crow tried to walk like a Swan, (which he couldn't))
Apni bhi bhool gaya (in doing so he forgot his own way of walking)

I hope the translation is acceptable.
