The POWER Of DHIKR (Remembrance of Allah )-
In Sahih Muslim, Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet Muhammad ![]() ― "Have you heard of a city, of which part is in the sea? Yes, they said (understanding him to mean Constantinople). He said: ―The Last Hour shall not occur until 70,000 of the children of Isaac shall attack it. When they will come to it they will land down, but they will not fight with arms, nor shower it with arrows. They will only say: ‘There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest‘, and one of its sides will fall. They will recite it for the second time: ‘There is no god but Allah, and Allah is The Greatest‘, and another side of the city will fall. Afterwards they will recite for a third time: ‘There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest’, and then it will be opened to them, and they will enter it and acquire booty. While they will be dividing the spoils, a proclaimer will come to them and say: Verily Dajjal/Anti-Christ has come out. Then they will leave everything and return.” |

If Maududi had only read this above Hadith regarding Imam Mehdi, he wouldn't have the courage to mock the Sufis, dhikr and it's blessings.
Mr. Maududi states in his book “Tajdeed Wa Ahyaa-e-Deen”, regarding Imaam Mahdi (alaihi salaam): “Those Muslims who believe in Imaam Mahdi are not very far behind in their misconception from those revivalists who do not believe in him. They think that Imaam Mahdi will be some kind of future molvi or sufi who will suddenly emerge from a certain Madrasah or khanqa with a tasbeeh in his hand. Upon arrival he will announce “I am Mahdi”. The Ulama and Mashaaikh will proceed to him with books in hand and recognize him by comparing the written signs with his external features. Then the pledge will occur and the announcement of Jihad will be proclaimed. The forty day sages and the old-fashioned predecessors will gather under his flag. They will use their swords as a mere formality to fulfil the conditions of Jihad. The actual work will be performed by blessings and spiritual powers. They will be victorious due to incantations and wazifas. On whichever kafir their sight falls, he will fall unconscious. By mere dua, tanks and aircraft will be infested with worms.” (Page 55) |

![]() There are numerous examples of the early generations surviving at length on only the zikr of Allah. Here is one such example mentioned in an article by Mufti Ahmed Desai: The Noblest Jihaad RASULULLAH (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “The noblest Jihad is to proclaim the truth to a tyrannical ruler.” The tyranny and cruelty of Hajjaaj Bin Yusuf are proverbial. He had put to death thousands of innocent Muslims, including many Sahaabah. He would have them summarily executed in his presence on the slightest pretext to gratiate his passion for killing. Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan Bin Abi Na-eem (rahmatullah alayh) was among the very senior Taabi-een. His taqwa and ibaadat were of such a lofty status and so allembracing that if he had to be informed that Malakul Maut (the Angel of Death) has arrived to take his soul, then too he would not have been able to improve his ibaadat. The news of Malakul Maut’s arrival would not effect the slightest change in his attitude. His entire being was perpetually consumed with the remembrance of Allah Ta’ala. Once Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan went to Hajjaaj and admonished him of the dire consequences of his cruelty and injustice. Hajjaaj was inflamed. He ordered that Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan be enclosed in a windowless dungeon. The door was sealed. He was literally entombed in the intensely dark dungeon in which there was not even a crevice for any light or air to filter through. He remained in the dungeon for fifteen days without any food or water or any other facilities whatsoever. After fifteen days, Hajjaaj order that his body be buried. When the guards opened the door of the dungeon they found Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan engaged in Salaat. He was in the same state as he was on the first day of his imprisonment. When Hajjaaj was informed, he ordered Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan to be released. He realized that this was an act of Allah Ta’ala. No one can harm a person when Allah Ta’ala protects him. ![]() |
