i did not know this story - what is the estimated death toll now - did someone make an attempt independent of govt to find out how many people actually died?

subhan Allah.. no words i hate musharraf more each day, he must be dragged to the gallows if the army ever wants to redeem itself. Jamia Hafsa massacre is unforgivable. Going to try and make this go viral on twitter in sha Allah.

do not forget. even if musharraf gave orders. it were the soldiers who pulled the trigger, who conducted a phosphorus attack on those poor souls out of their own free will. anybody wishing to find out how many died needs only a calculator and the see how many students were enrolled, how many reached home and how many were reported dead 'officially'.

Did the ones in this red mosque do takfir of the government and declare armed war against it or carry out armed attacks against it, before this government attack took place?

brother did you read the article posted in the beginning that was largely a translation of Mufti Rafi's lecture or not? if not then please do so. a lot of effort was put into it. it should be published. if you read it, it should have answered your questions.

one cannot imagine how the situation deteriorated in pakistan as soon as the lal masjid massacre took place. I was in Kohat at the time, on one of my very rare trips (1 of only 3 visits to my ancestral homeland). immediately a lot of soldiers, policeman died within those weeks in Kohat, masjids that army member frequented were bombed etc. one got police officer who was simply standing by a fresh water spring where the people were swimming etc. got shot there just a few metres from where i was. i remember speaking to an army officer (pashtun, sunni, well-educated in the secular sense of the term) who told me that for this alone i would not hesitate in pulling the trigger would musharraf come before me today.

i wonder that in a country where corruption, bribery, lies, deceipt, ungodliness, not lowering one's gaze, pornography, mocking the sunnah or religious people, kidnapping, ransom, murder, and not respecting the rights of Allah have all become so widespread at every level of society (no it's not like pakistan is a good country with good people a bad government, things never work that way) can we really expect anything different in that country?

when paksitanis give not a care for respecting the rights of allah upon them (and i'm a pakistani so im included in this first and foremost), why on earth would we expect other individuals or fellow pakistanis to respect our rights? because we are muslim? how so? our muslim sounding last names?

There were a majority of Shiah soldiers. You can listen Maulana Abdur Rasheed Ghazi sahab's last interview on Geo, he says that the soldiers are chanting " Ya Ali Madad".

So in very brief summary:

The lal masjid people were good people (May Allah shower them in His Mercy).
They did a few mistakes like trying to stop a brothel from operating
They were persued into the masjid by the local gangster type police
This was blown out of proportion by the Musharaf government, aided by the Pakistani army
Led on by external governments fighting 'terrorism'
Led on by internal liberals and secularists
They massacred many innocent women children and men
To date no one has been arrested
And lots of disinformation has been spread about it by liberals and secularists because they have a bias against mullahs and madressas.

Conclusion
Musharaff is a dog and Pakistan is full of corruption at all levels where the mighty are unjust towards the weak.

Musharraf was also the COAS at the time right? Just read on SF thread the general overseeing the operation against lal masjid was a Qadiyani himself Tariq Majeed.
