![]() ![]() I happened to see a particularly noteworthy signature statement in a recent thread: "How could drops of water know themselves to be a river? Yet the river flows on. - Imam Al-Ghazali" This observation brought to mind recent advancement in the study and science of "swarm intelligence": intelligent globalized or collective behavior unknown to its individual agents. This occurs naturally for: ant colonies, bird flocks, animal herds, fish schools, bee swarms, and others. These are recognized to occur according to certain algorithms particular for each agent. For ant colonies, there are algorithms pertaining to the pheromones emitted by ants which serve as communicators regarding conduct. This is identified as Ant Colony Optimization ACO Imam Ghazali pondered about how water drops can form into a river that flows. This river flow dynamic , or RFD, is considered a practical, open ended variation of the Ant Colony Optimization. It occurs according to variant gradients in altitude- as water drops flow from Upstream to Downstream- which can be calculated via algorithmic computation. Intelligent Water Drop Algorithm explains how a waterdrop BEST flows to its BEST settling position, ie. optimization. These issues can be studied and approached scientifically, through computer science in particular in such fields as Metaheuristics: exploring huge spaces to find best configurations. Interestingly, as we see Swarm Intelligence in nature, we also see Swarm Intelligence in human behavior in crowd psychology, group intelligence, or collective intelligence. This group intelligence is observable in Islam in particular where individual agents function as part of a group wisdom, in group prayers, in circumbulation during umrah. Its NO coincidence that Allah SWT referenced birds, bees, and ants as communities with group intelligence. And its no surprise that Islam and the Cause of Allah is for optimization for the worship of Allah SWT. |

Furthermore,
This issue of Collective Intelligence is SUPERIOR to "groupthink" which is a sickness of the Muslim Ummah. Groupthink: “A mode of thinking that people engage in when they are deeply involved in a cohesive ingroup, when the members' strivings for unanimity override their motivation to realistically appraise alternative courses of action” (Janis, 1972). Thus, individuals seek to conform to and comply with the group without rational thought about Right and Wrong. The rise and spread of Nazi fascism when people conformed and complied with the villification and extermination of innocent people are seen as the most modern and volatile potential of groupthink. This sense to conform can motivate individuals to anticipate actions which serve the purpose of the group, such as the videos here of individuals in a group going into fits as if they were possessed. However, collective intelligence is different: collective intelligence can be encouraged "to overcome 'groupthink' and individual cognitive bias in order to allow a collective to cooperate on one process—while achieving enhanced intellectual performance "the capacity of human communities to evolve towards higher order complexity and harmony, through such innovation mechanisms as differentiation and integration, competition and collaboration." "collective intelligence also involves achieving a single focus of attention and standard of metrics which provide an appropriate threshold of action". These observations about collective intelligence apply to the Muslim Ummah in particular. We share knowledge and observations here at SF for the individual purpose of the Ajar from Allah, but this also serves the collective purpose of sharing knowledge, encouraging openness about knowledge of Islam, encouraging global action and globalized worldview which serve to increase collective intelligence. |

![]() The signature happens to be mine. I really liked it and I thought of it in a different way. My interpretation was that we as human beings think that we are great and intelligent and sometimes even have the illusion that we have a lot of power. But that infact we are like drops of water that do not know that we are a part of a river which flows to a certain destination whether we like it or not. Nonetheless, your view is very interesting brother, I enjoyed reading it. |

Here is a basic research question from MIT's Center for Collective Intelligence:
Our basic research question is: How can people and computers be connected so that—collectively—they act more intelligently than any individuals, groups, or computers have ever done before?' As a result, problem solving should be approached through collective, group intelligent efforts. |
