Default So called honor killings
Another high profile case of a elderly Pakistani immigrant couple (in their 50s) in the UK allegedly murdering their teenage daughter because she would not marry a cousin in Pakistan and she had male friends in school.

Is this Islamic? What is the Islamic response in these type of situations if the child will not listen, should the parents just dis-own them? Or is it better to continue to have a close friendship with the child hoping that one day no matter what they may get through to the child? Should the parents change their attitude and become more accepting?

My question is slightly off-topic but I've been curious for quite a while,

Are there any Muslim countries in which such killing are called "honor killings"? I have never heard the term used by Muslims (at least outside of the english speaking world) and so I wonder about its origins. If anyone knows, please share your knowledge.

yes these killings are called honor killings by the media in our country, the person who kills a female relative says that he did so to save his honour, If someone does not kill his daughter/sister if she is seeing a man or marrying in court or disowns her at least then he is considered a beighairat in a large section of our society..although the case mentioned in the on this thread feels too extreme...

In honor killings its not just the women, even the men are killed, very prevalent among the Hindus in India, they have as many castes within them as they have their deities, something in the range of 300 million, so if a person worships monkey diety, he can't marry a person who worhips motorcycle deity.....

again not sure, they are 'sub-caste' caste within motorcycles caste, both have million worshipping them, so shouldn't feel the need for intercaste marriage and be up for a honor killing. what say?

I say they are quite liberal then, what about honour killings in the muslim community in India, do they occur often?

the story is a bit suspicious....the second daughter who apparently witnessed this attack told the police after she had been arrested for stealing from her parents home :s

How does she have the courage to steal from her parents when she saw what they are capable of with her sister
and why would the family call the police on her if they knew that she knows they murdered the other sister

to expand on this a bit further, she supposedly witnessed this honour killing in 2003. In 2010 she got 3 men to do an armed robbery on her own parents house, her mum and siblings were tied up in the house. She got caught and suddenly her memory was jogged and she decided to tell the police her parents had done this so called honour killing 7 years ago. Id imagine the police were more than happy to give her a light sentence if she took this case up. The only evidence they have is a statement, they cant possible collect any forensic evidence now after 7 years. So the only evidence is a witness, and that witness had just been caught robbing from the so called murder suspects. If thats not an unreliable witness I dont know what is. Furthermore, the press have buried these facts under a massive load of headlines such as strict muslim parents kill daughter due to western lifestyle*

Of course it's not Islamic. Anyone can't act as a vigilante enforcing sharia by own hands without the mandate by the government. It's tribal in nature rather than Islamic.

Allah Knows Best.

Certainly not kill her. Even in an Islamic khilafat if he wished for hadd, he would need witnesses, would he not?
