Wa `Alaykumus Salaam wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh.
The Sunnah method is to drink the entire container of water in a minimum of three sips. What is important is that the water should not be gulped by drinking it in less then three sips, and however many sips are taken above three, are well and good. Also, besides drinking the water in three sips, it should also be in three breaths. Meaning; drink, then move the container away from your mouth to breathe (do not breathe into the container, as that is against the Sunnah) and then drink again. A very good Kitaab to get which explains the Sunan of Rasoolullaah (Sallallaahu `Alayhi wa Sallam), is "Uswal Rasool-e-Akram" by `Aarif Billaah, Maulana Abdul Hayy al-Lucknowi. If you can obtain this Kitaab and study it, it will be very beneficial for you, Inshaa'Allaah. |
