Default Rebelling against the Khalifah is and act of kufr?

I have heard from some scholars that rebelling against the Khalifah is an act of kufr.

If this is the case then what is the status of those that rebelled against the Khalifah such as the saud family and others who may have done so?

The first rebel from the Saud family was executed as a kafir rebel by the hanafi ulama in Turkey. He was not allowed to perform two raka salah before execution. The current family members cannot be considered rebels because they inherited it.

imam abu hanifah (rh) supported the uprising against the abbasid khalifah.

one has to see whether the 'khalifah' has done something that has put him out of the fold of islam. this is seen in terms of his commands.

Let us briefly look at the Saudi rebellion. What did it achieve for the Arabs and the Muslims? It weakened the Usmanli Khilafah and allowed the kuffar to split the whole umma up into more than 30 different nation-states. No Zakat is collected anywhere, no Jizya, Muslims and non Muslims are equal and Muslims can be murdered in their thousands and there is no one to defend the Muslims or Islam. We now have lawless groups springing up and causing acts of murder and destruction in the name of Islam.

I'll just add to this.
One has to see whether the 'khalifah' has done something which has made him unfit for the khilafah. There are proper reasons for a khalifah becoming unfit for the khilafah. these include:
1) The khalifah becoming apostate which can be due to many reasons including disregarding Shariah law and implementing man made law in front of it which totally or partially contradicts Shariah law and/or does not implement Hudood and/or allies with the Jews and Christians against Muslims (which we can witness in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and other places).
2) The khalifah remains a Muslim but becomes unfit to rule due to reasons like zulm (which we see during the times of Imam Abu Hanifah ru) or turning Khilafah into malookiat (inheritance) (which we can witness during the time of Imam Hussain who rebelled against Yazid)
