Default Question, meaning of "gharib jayyid" in hadith classifications
Salaam brothers and sisters, what does the hadith classification "gharib, jayyid" [ both terms are used together for one hadith ] means ?

Salaam Mufti Hussain, no i wast just asking this question in general, since a brother told me that both [ Gharib & jayyid ] can be used together for the classification of one hadith, so i wondered what exactly is ment by a hadith that is classified as "Gharib, Jayyid" . Also maybe a stupid question, but is "hasan" not the same as "jayyid" ?

ma salama

Jayyid is generally used for a hadith that is strong, but not sahih, more or less similar to hasan.

As for gharib, it is used for a number of meanings:
1- Narrated with only one chain
2- A certain narrator only narrates it from a certain teacher
3- Meaning is strange
in addition to few other meanings.

It is perfectly possible for a hadith to be jayyid as well as gharib, just as it can be sahih or hasan as well as gharib at the same time.

wa rahmatullah,
Are u referring to the sadaqah al-fitr hadith?
were you referring to the hadith "The fast of the month of Ramadan is suspended between heaven and earth and is not raised up except by zakat al-fitr" ? If so I'm interested in your research.

for the above explanation also.

While the 2 chains for the hadith are weak and not extremly weak, the purport of the hadith is problematic, as it indicates that the fast isn't accepted without Sadaqat al-Fitr. This isn't backed up by other ahadith, as they show that the fast is perfected through it and not that the fast is totally dependent on it for acceptance.

mufti.

I understand I should not tell people, by using this hadith, that their fast is suspended until they pay zakat ul fitr.

Could it not mean that the reward (or Allah's pleasure) is suspended?
